Am going to vegas for the 3rd time this year and still havent played any roulette.
Is it as simple as just walking up and sticking my chips on the numbers/combinations i wanna bet on?? been playing quite abit online and is there anything i need to know for real life vegas tables.
As i say silly question relly lol please let me know thanks very much
Very silly question... roulette?
Ah, thanks for asking. July will be my second trip and I would like to know as well.
Where do you play online? As far as table games goes, how is the house edge?

Well, just to be clear, you have to use special chips just for the roulette table. Each player gets their own color so the dealer knows who to pay. So you cash in either money or a casino chip to get your stack of roulette chips and cash them in again before you leave the table. The dealer is not allowed to have you hand him the money , so it put it down on the felt and then he%26#39;ll take it to change into chips. Also, look at thesign and be aware of what the chips are worth ( $1 each or $5 or even 50 cents in some casinos) and what the minimum you have to play is ( we usually find a four chip minimum has to be placed either inside on numbers or ';outside'; on things like red or blck, odd , even etc.) I think the best thing to do is to watch for just a few minutes before you jump in- you%26#39;ll get a feel for how it goes. And I have found most dealers and players very cordial and eager to help a newbie understand what to do!
Good luck!
It%26#39;s not quite as simple as ';walking up and sticking my chips on the numbers/combinations i wanna bet on??'; One off bets can take the form of cash but normally you%26#39;d normally buy chips that are unique to that particular table (and of no value anywhere else) and then when you%26#39;re done color these up for regular chips.
The one major difference you may possibly find is if you%26#39;ve been playing online in the UK is that a US roulette reel has 38 numbers as opposed to the 37 on a European wheel (there%26#39;s 00 as well as 0). This increases the house edge considerably. You%26#39;re unlikely to find single zero roulette in Vegas other than in high limit areas, though I think the Strat maybe has it.

ok thanks for all youre help.
i did wonder how does the dealer know who to pay? so if each person has there own colour chips does that mean theres a certain amount of players who can play at 1 time on a table?
i%26#39;ve been playing online at bet365.com btw to the person who asked
Each player has their own color. I%26#39;d guess there%26#39;s normally around 8-10 different colors. Any more players than that and the table would just be too busy anyway.
Blagger, you%26#39;re right, the Strat has a single zero table. Funny thing is, I was the only one at that table. The double zero table was crowded.
The first time I played roulette I was with someone who had to leave for a minute. I asked him what to do since I didn%26#39;t have a clue. He said: just put the chips down! O.K. I did just that. I put the chips down. All of them. All on one number(what did I know?). And I won!! Talk about beginner%26#39;s luck! I had no idea how much I won. All I knew was all those chips were Mine, Mine, MINE!!! Of course, they didn%26#39;t remain Mine, mine, mine for long but it was fun. Good luck!
I think the tables I have been to all have had six different colors- they also have other larger denomination chips, so sometimes there are six people each playing a color and one or two extras playing big denomination chips (the dealer always knows who those belong to). If there are no colors left the dealer will tell you he can%26#39;t accomodate you then. We have sometimes had to wait around and be spectators for a short while till a color comes available, but at El Cortez, where we like to play , there are four tables possible and they open up the additional tables for the overflow as needed. Most places have at least two tables. We play during the week- I don%26#39;t know how hard it is to get a color on weekends.
Lulu, I%26#39;ll bow to your expert roulette regarding the number of colors on a table. I haven%26#39;t actually played for a couple of years - I tend to get overexcited and lose lots of cash far too quickly.... :-)
I can%26#39;t believe no one has mentioned the most important advice for someone who has never played in a live casino: When you win and the dealer pays you, ALWAYS WAIT until all bets have been paid and the marker removed before collecting your chips. The dealers will scold you if you forget - it happens to everyone occasionally, but make an effort.
Also, be considerate of other players. You will likely be reaching across each other to place your bets, so try not to whack anybody with your arm. If someone asks you to place a bet for them that they can%26#39;t reach, do so.
