Staying at the Golden Nugget for the first time: question...

I booked on Priceline last week. Today I was looking at the GN%26#39;s webby and I saw this in the reservation page:

';Enjoy an intimate check-in experience with out the wait and full access to our lavish VIP Lounge for only $20.';

what is up with that? complimentary drinks? elaborate, anyone?!

Staying at the Golden Nugget for the first time: question...

I think I am correct access to the VIP Lounge is only brief, while you are checking in- it is not like a concierge floor. The only value some people see is that if the line at check in is long, they don%26#39;t have to wait in it - they go to the private ';lounge'; and are checked in immediately. Also guaranteed that they will get the room they request- at least as far as smoking/non or king/ double beds etc.

I have personally never seen the worth of paying that- perhaps that is because we go during the week, not weekend- and have only found any long line at all twice in about 20 trips ( a bus had apparently arrived) and never not gotten type of room we wanted. When we found a line , we checked suitcases with the bell desk and went for bite to eat- half an hour later the line was gone and we checked in and retrieved our suitcases for the price of a tip. Maybe weekend check in is more crowded.

I don%26#39;t know what they have now in the lounge - one person described being offered a bottle of water and little bags of chips. I don%26#39;t know if that is typical or not. I think there description is very misleading- after you are checked in , that%26#39;s the end of the lounge for you - which I think is a very small area off the lobby to start with. You might search VIP lounge here and see what others have experienced , but I think that is correct from what I have been told in the past..

Staying at the Golden Nugget for the first time: question...

If I were staying DT, Gn is the only place. Weekend stay, take VP. Otherwise, your kindness will take you far, $ 20 or not.

Lulu is pretty much correct.

Basically...if you sign up for it, you will get to your room quicker (only if there is a line out at the main desk).

I have done it a few times when I was arriving at a time that would be ';high traffic'; and didn%26#39;t want to chance standing in line. I also liked that it guaranteed I would get a ';King bed..non-smoking'; room. Most of the time you get your preference...but not always.

The lounge you can actually visit anytime during your stay. It%26#39;s a little room that has bottles of water, some chips, and some apples. No alcoholic drinks or anything like that...lol! It has a few couches, and would be a good place to escape if you had to make some quiet phone calls during your stay. Of course you could always make those in your room too!

If you absolutely want a certain type of room, or fear you may be arriving at a high traffic time...it may be worth it. Otherwise, I%26#39;ve also not used it many times and had no problems.

I tried checking in on a Sunday in April adrixia, I%26#39;m not very good at waiting in line. My experience at that time was, I went to check-in around 5 pm, long line, left. Went back around 6:30 pm, longer line. 8 pm. LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally checked in with no line around 10 pm or so. Wished I had VIP the whole time!

Thanks for the info, people...I knew where to come to get some answers! But one more thing, my flight is scheduled for arrival at 9pm, making it close to 10 before we get to the GN...I need a smoking, 2 beds....should I call ahead of time? is it the first ';gamble'; I am gonna take in LV to get the right room???!!!

I%26#39;ll skip the $20 VIP, no alcohol lounge..at TI the VIP lounge has a fully stocked fridge with beer, juice, pop....they had chocolate covered strawberries and some very nice couches in there...if it isn%26#39;t like that, it is not worth the money!

We always get in on a Wednesday or Thursday night around 9 p.m. and have never encountered a line (watch, this will be the first!). I would never do the VIP.

Adrixia...it will be your first gamble! =)Rooms are given out based on availability and preferences...depends on if there are any 2 bed smoking rooms left when you check in. Only way to guarantee you%26#39;d get one is if you do the VIP..otherwise it just depends on how many other people want the same kind of room. =)

Good luck...you%26#39;ll love the Nugget! =)

VIP Check In guarantees that your room will be ready when you get there and that it will be correct. Most hotels, the GN included, you get what is available and your request for say a nonsmoking room is merely that, a request.

The 鈥淰IP Lounge鈥?is a room located behind you if you are standing in the regular line.

There is a small fridge with water, juice and some chips.

The nice lady check you in promptly.

We used this service and will do so again next week.

We are set to arrive at or near the Noon official checkout time and I expect a traffic jam which I would like to avoid.

I raid their fridge for water and juice and grab some chips etc. to get back part of the cost.

CHI- that is all well and good, but can I add it on if I decide to even though I already booked through PL??

adriaxi could you tell what the vip lounge is it TI as going there next week and intersted in it. thanks
