which mall has the biggest ';WOW'; factor

We will be in Vegas in five days and bringing two teens.....which Vegas mall would make them say ';WOW'; ?

I haven%26#39;t been to a mall there in years with the exception of Forum Shops. Would really appreciate some advice.

which mall has the biggest ';WOW'; factor

What do you mean by ';mall';? When I think mall, I think suburban, stand alone, shopping mall. I usually call the ones attached to the casino/hotels as ';shopping area'; or their specific name.

If you mean the shopping areas on the strip, The Venetian one is nice as is the forum shops but, they all have their plus and minus. The forum shops at Ceasar%26#39;s is huge now with spiral escalators and everything. We got a kick out of those escalators. There%26#39;s nothing like that here in Edmonton)

which mall has the biggest ';WOW'; factor

the forum shop at caesars

Another vote for the Forum Shops or Venetian. Planet Hollywood shopping is another choice but not as nice as the other two. IMHO

depends on what shops you want,

i would say the forum are nice but fashion show is huge with some great shops and reasonable in price,

the malls off strip seem good too, we are thinking of going to meadow mall and townsquare when we go next month

if your thinking WOW as in looks wise then venetian, bellagio

The 4 largest malls on the strip are 1. The Fashion Show Mall(over 200 stores), The Forum Shops(over 175 stores), The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood(over 100 stores), and the Grand Canal Shops/Palazzo shops(with over 100 stores).

Wynn and Bellagio are high-end only( Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, Dior, ect.) malls with about 10 stores each.

Mandalay Place has about 40-50 shops.

Fashion Show is big and impressive but probably not radically different to malls that the teens will have experienced elsewhere.

Definitely Forum Shops for a uniquely Vegas ';Wow'; experience.

being an avid shopper myself, i found the fashion show mall to be the best, and the outlet malls to be such a bore, same stuff, mostly same prices as the regular mall, but lots of the outlet stores are such a mess, their product is just thrown in, its too exhausting to dig through piles

Forum shops still have plenty of %26#39;wow%26#39; though I find that I never really %26#39;shop%26#39; there - usually just a bit of window shopping and cheesecake factory for lunch! Venetian has a Jimmy Choo store which I like to visit.

I like the outlet stores. When we%26#39;ve visited with teenagers we let them wander and meet up at the food courts in the middle at an pre-arranged time. Much easier on my husband%26#39;s feet and pocket!!! Just a thought!

trocar60,

Do you want the WOW I never I would be in the place where I can see so many high end stores in a unique retail spare...OR, Look at all the bargains...OR...this is a really big/nice mall?

gee I must still be tired. I%26#39;m not making much sense. I meant '; I never thought I would...';

Sorry. If if know what kind of wow you want we can help more. :-%26gt;

Premier Mall

Does anyone know where the Premier Mall is located?..Im staying at TI

Premier Mall

Premier Mall? Never heard. Are you talking about the Fashion Show Mall? that mall is across the street from TI. Just walk across the bridge and your there!

Premier Mall

Is that the name of the mall? I%26#39;ve never heard of that. I know there%26#39;s a %26#39;Premium Outlet%26#39;, but not sure if you meant that one.

Good one Frugal! I forgot about that place :o)

Here is the website for the mall if you like:

www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp…

and you can take Spring Mountain Rd to the 15 freeway (Spring Mtn is next to the TI)

go north on the 15 freeway and exit off of E. Charelston. When you exit Charleston, you want to make an immediate left onto Grand Central Pkwy. and the outlet will be on the left side.

If you are not driving, here is a link for other services on how to get there with directions:

Hope this helps

Bally lovers help me out!

I just got back from staying at MGM. Will have to write my summary later. On to my next stay at Bally%26#39;s. We are doing a package deal cheap, cheap, cheap! Anyway, Help me understand the north tower vs. south tower. I%26#39;m confused. Do both towers have classic rooms, but the ones in the north tower are renovated? Or, are the classic rooms only in the south tower and the delux rooms are in the north tower because the rooms are rennovated? Help!

Are package said we would be staying in the classic room. Not that I mind if it needs updated. As long as it%26#39;s clean and bed is comfy, I%26#39;m fine. If I request a north tower room is it extra?

Sorry for babbling.

Bally lovers help me out!

We stayed at Bally%26#39;s in April. We were also on a package deal that said we would be in a classic room. After reading some of the reviews on here, which said the classic rooms were a little worn(with views though) and the north tower rooms had been renovated(usually without a view) I decided to ask for a north tower room. The first night none were available with a ks bed so they offered us a huge suite for the night (in the north tower), with the option to move down the hall to another room the next day. We did move to another room the next day (as the suite was $100 extra per night) and the room we got was nicely renovated and very clean (no view though). Good luck!

Sorry for babbling.

Bally lovers help me out!

So, the north tower room was more money than the South Tower room?

I stay at Bally%26#39;s often and have stayed in both Towers. The classic rooms in the South Tower are very clean, just dated, but have great views of the strip. The deluxe rooms in the North Tower have a view of the back or side of Bally%26#39;s but are updated with newer furnishings and marble baths etc. Both towers have very large rooms and are both very clean. I have always had my rooms comped, so I%26#39;m not sure of the price difference, but I think it%26#39;s around $25/night to upgrade during the week.

No, I didn%26#39;t get charged any extra. We would have if we wanted to stay in the suite. I think they call the ones in the north tower the deluxe ones.

We liked our room in the north tower. The view didn%26#39;t matter to us because we spent the whole day and most of the evening out of the hotel. The nice bathroom was a plus for me...made me feel luxurious.

  • American Airlines $15 rule

Can someone please explain the AA policy to me ?

Our family of four is flying out on Thursday, (DFW)

on American. We bought our tickets in early April.

Today I called AA just to clarify whether or not we would have pay the fee. The AA rep informed me that YES we would have to pay the fee because their computer automatically adds the fee. This is not what the website says.

This is not a big deal, we will pay it , no problem,

but getting mixed responses from website, and phone rep.

Hope someone can help me out.......

    American Airlines $15 rule

You shouldn%26#39;t pay for any fees, assuming your bags aren%26#39;t overweight. Their website clearly explains :

-For the first checked bag, customers who buy a ticket before June 15, 2008

-For the second checked bag, customers who purchased a ticket before May 12, 2008

    to be excluded.

You should talk to the people at the check-in counter, and if you want to, you can print out the section that explains this on their website and bring it with you-- although I have a feeling that people at the check in counter encounter the same thing every day, and they can assist you better than the phone rep. Good luck!!

    American Airlines $15 rule

Good idea...I will print out the ';exceptions'; form and take it with me.

Like I said, it is not a major issue, but $60.00 each way just cuts from our entertainment budget.

I don%26#39;t want to be told I have to pay, when the print clearly states that we bought our tickets before that takes effect.

    Whats fair is fair!

Somewhere along the way I either read or heard that members of the American Airlines frequent flier program are exemptfrom the charge as well, but I cannot seem to remember or find where I saw that. Anyone know if t%26#39;s true? I am currently a member , but since joining is free , it would be great if that were the case and everyone could do it.. seems too good to be true though!

Tro, I totally agree. $60 each way is $120 RT and you are going to VEGAS! That money should be used for dining, shows, gambling, etc. Not for the luggage service fee!!

I forgot to add, do you have an email confirmation from the airlines, or any booking agency to indicate the date you purchased the tickets?? I know it%26#39;s a lot of work and probably you%26#39;re not going to need it, but I%26#39;d bring it with me. Good luck and have fun!

I am American Gold status and received an email saying that the $15 fee was waived for me as well as anyone else traveling on my reservation.

    LL

Lulu: The rules are explained here:

    - Customers who purchase First or Business Class tickets

    - AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum and AAdvantage Gold members as well as customers flying on the same reservation

    - Customers who purchase full-fare tickets in Economy Class

    to be excluded.

So unless you%26#39;re a Platinum or Gold member, it won%26#39;t save you any money..

I just confirmed my reservation on American for this Thursday, June 19 and asked about the bags. Because I purchased our tickets in April, the bag fee does not apply - even if we check two bags apiece.

So, you should not be charged - the agent even told me that it will show in the computer at curbside check in.

The previous post makes me feel better. We booked early April so we should have no problem checking our bags.

I just don%26#39;t want to be forced into paying when we shouldn%26#39;t have to.

    Good Luck to everyone.

    4 days and counting....

Thanks, that explains it and I am indeed not eligible!

If you have your confirmation from when you booked, it states baggage, print it, bring it with. Written contract.

    Have a great trip!

    Shade at MGM/Signature Pool Decks?

Staying at the Signature this month. Which pools have shaded pool decks? Are umbrellas available for free? Are they plentiful or do we need to get to the pool area early to get one? Thanks for your help.

    Shade at MGM/Signature Pool Decks?

I do know that there are some ';travelers photos'; on the TA Sig review page. There are some photos of the pools at Sig on there that people have posted so you can get a better idea.

    The Sig is nice.

    Shade at MGM/Signature Pool Decks?

Has anyone been to the MGM or Sig Pools during the warm weather? Thanks!

we stayed at mgm last july; going again in a few weeks. We found shade near the lazy river pool. That was important to a fair skin person like me. We did have to arrive early to get the shady spot. I think we are going to reserve a cabana to make sure I have shade.

Lots of shade at the Sig. One pool is east of the towers and 2 pools are west so just go to the pool you want. Check out the love cushions by the waterfall between pools 2 and 3.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. I%26#39;m wondering why there is so little shade at the MGM. Aren%26#39;t there palm trees? We%26#39;ve never been to Vegas before so I%26#39;m a little confused. Thanks again.

I would bring some sort of hat, sunscreen, and a light weight long sleeve shirt just in case.

Alot of pool people like to bake in the sun for 1-3 hours so that is probably why there isn%26#39;t alot of shade.

We stayed in tower 3 a few weeks ago and the pool there had quite a few umbrellas available as well as free cabanas on first come first served basis. We got to the pool in mid afternoon and it was not crowded at all.

At the signature they%26#39;ve got some nice umbrella circle chairs with a little glass table in them - they are awesome! They%26#39;re free and we went down to the pool multiple times and didn%26#39;t have a problem getting one.

The MGM pools do have some shade but it might be a bit harder to find a good spot. We went over late morning and it took us a bit just to find two chairs together regardless of shade or not.

Any opinion on Gold Coast? The good, bad, the ugly......

Please give me any info. on this hotel....for one night I don%26#39;t have to stay on the strip....

Any opinion on Gold Coast? The good, bad, the ugly......

Its not cool, hip, new or interesting for most folks. It%26#39;s across the street form the Rio and 3/4 mile from the Palms (across the street). It%26#39;s west of the strip. Blackjack pays 2 to 1. Decent food if your not super picky. I%26#39;m staying there soon.

Any opinion on Gold Coast? The good, bad, the ugly......

But it does look very clean and well-lit for an older casino. The dealers are very friendly. I think the buffet tends to lean a little too much on the pork side, but, like Bridgefan says, ';it%26#39;s fuel for the body';.

Since you mention in your other posts that you%26#39;re traveling with a 9 year-old, I%26#39;m going to say ';skip it';. Although there IS a bowling alley on premises...

    Stay on the strip.

Thanks everyone for the info!!! I need all the advice I can get!

Au contraire. If you have a 9-year old with you, I%26#39;d definitely recommend the GC. The rooms are good-sized and all should be renovated by July 1. The buffet is decent and there%26#39;s a shuttle to the Orleans which has a movie theater.

The Gold Coast is a very basic, clean and safe hotel but nothing fancy. The pool is very small. It has a friendly and helpful staff. They have a shuttle that goes to Bill%26#39;s (on the strip) and another shuttle that goes to the Orlean.

Always had nice stays at GC. No, it%26#39;s not luxury, but that%26#39;s why it%26#39;s cheap. We like the restaurants, the casino, the people and the rooms are nice. We also like the fact that you can walk right across the street to Rio and Palms in five minutes, but sleep at one third the price at GC.

Geez, ive been there quite a few times and never saw 2 for 1 pay on BJ. haven%26#39;t been there in 6 months, better get over there next month.

    Gold Coast.

PROS - clean rooms, loose slots, items in convenience store are cheap, friendly staff, shuttle gets you to the strip in about 5 minutes for free, way way cheaper than strip resorts %26amp; it is smaller than the big resorts so it only takes a few minutes to get anywhere.

CONS - its NOT a 5 star, you are not gonna get 1200 thread count sheets, the buffet is mediocre to low end, The casino is blah but Rio and Palms are so close by it doesnt matter.

    Id stay there.

    Stace

Good if you smoke and like to be around smokers. Small bathrooms, pool is a joke. Great booze shop.

For a good $ rate, better facility and location, check Hooters, Excalibur,Sahara. Imperial Palace for a similar environment to GC but midstrip.

Or,spend a little more and take a big step up at Luxor, MonteCarlo, Harrahs, Flamingo

    Need a little Vegas fix?

OK... I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ll have to join, but if you do it%26#39;s easy and they won%26#39;t spam your email.

Good video - really captures how big everything is.

That was a great teaser.... thanks

HE needs to fix them teeth!!

    LOL Wavy.

I thought that was the best part. A drunk fat guy with bad teeth talking about going to Coyote Ugly. Probably the only hot women that ever talk to him.

Thank you so much Dr. Vegas. I was getting a quick fix most nights when the intro to CSI was coming on Spike TV. Now I have a new fix to hold me over til Dec. Was there in May and can%26#39;t wait to get back.

    Thanks again!

It is not there this morning!

Try again Slotto, I%26#39;m looking at it now.

Even you favorite place, the IP is featured.

Dr. Vegas' trip report. 12/10 to 12/13 Part Uno...

If you stay at Bellagio, play slots, eat at 4 star restaurants and expect to see something here that might interest you, you don%26#39;t know me and you might be bored. If you do know me, like to drink, look at beautiful women, play 21or like craps (lost my virginity this trip), read on.

JetBlue from IAD non-stop was the best. Great service, good, plentiful snacks, personal TV%26#39;s with DirecTv, leather seats, tons of legroom and arrived 15 mins early. What more can you ask for 150 bucks round trip?!

Met our driver from Presidential (Carletta)( ask for her and mention me) and finally got our bags. Out to the limo and on the road in minutes. Carletta took us to Vons (I%26#39;m now a Vons Club member) for party supplies and some bleach for her and after stocking up on beer and Grey Goose we hopped in the limo for some serious champagne drinking (no rose vp) and a trip up the Strip to see the changes and the sadly dark Stardust.

Let me tell you, a limo beats a cab anyday and for the most part is not that much more money compared to the service. She gave us a good 1.5 hours of ride and the return trip (that comes later) was just as good.

Arrive at the El Cortez and with no bellman in sight, lug our bags to the front desk, some 25 feet away. As we stand there some guy at the bar (which is 30 feet away from the valet entrance) says, ';Hey, are you from DC?'; Guess who it was . Chitown and the Lady. So we chatted as my buddy Joe checked in and afterward carried the bags to the room.

Now this joint was a mere $25 per/ night, so I was suprised at the room size, the cleanliness and the furnishings. The entire hotel harkins back to the 40%26#39;s and I though that was great. Don%26#39;t stay here if you need your hand held. Ain%26#39;t gonna happen. But the maid service was great and after tipping $5 per day we had more freakin%26#39; pillows and towels (which were big, new and soft) than we could use.

Headed back down to the bar after trying to get another limo and chatted with Chitown and the Lady (nice glasses again J) and had a cocktail while I finally got through to Presidential for the limo to the Mirage. This driver was a bit weird, but then it was the night shift. So Jeff (weird guy) arrives in the Lincoln stretch and off to Mirage to pick-up Gabby and Martin. We all meet and off we go down the Strip to the sign. I now know why Gabby is her name. LOL So we pull up to the famous sign and Joe (my buddy) takes a picture of some random drunks who were there then we four line up for Jeff to take our pic. OK, now what? So we go on over to Ellis Island so they can all see where it is and I had to pee like a race horse.

On to the Wynn. Holy Crap this place is nice. So we walk in gawking at the place and find this bar near the casino since we have some cash that vp03 sent to buy us cocktails. (Thanks again VP!) I think no, I want the Parasol Bar. So I ask where it is. Well hell that IS the Parasol. LOL Turns out there is only one cocktail girl in the place , but she took good care of us. $70 -tip later and some great conversation, we stagger out to the cab stand to head our separate ways at 3am Vegas time.

Joe and I had to tell the cabby NO 5 times when he kept offering to take us to a gentlemans club, but he finally got us back to the ElCo for about 15 bucks. Joe has this great idea to play Craps. Great, my first time. I didn%26#39;t do too bad. Only threw the dice off the table a few times, but hey, I was a newbie. Ended up down about $50 and made my way to bed about 7am. (I think).....

Dr. Vegas' trip report. 12/10 to 12/13 Part Uno...

And, so, it starts! The anticipation is about to kill me. It wasn%26#39;t enough that I couldn%26#39;t make the M%26amp;G, now I have to wait forever to hear the accounting of it. I want more. Come on Doc and the rest of you, let%26#39;s have it.

Dr. Vegas' trip report. 12/10 to 12/13 Part Uno...

I was paitiently waiting for your report....can麓t wait to hear how the MG went...

Lmao, I%26#39;m sure Gabby%26#39;s going to LOVE what you said about her name!

Good reading so far buddy, keep it coming.

I think that the cabby driving you back to the EC was hoping to be rewarded with a ';$100 handshake'; by the doorman at the club. At least that%26#39;s what I%26#39;ve heard, second-hand, of course. I only do cabs in Vegas to the airport, so I%26#39;ve never experienced such pressure tactics. Good report so far-keep %26#39;em coming!

Great report.....I really like ';I am now a Von%26#39;s member';.....you sound like such the character Dr V! Can%26#39;t wait for more!

More is coming, but my notes get more and more disjointed and un- readable. The ole lady said I write like well.. a doctor. LOL

Yeah SC, it%26#39;s $60 min. depending on the club. NEVER EVER pay the cabby to go to any gentleman%26#39;s club. Let him pay the fare.

You are welcome, doc. Thanks for not calling me from the Wynn! Was gabby wearing those Uggs??? You can skip the random drunks picture- I have enough of those already.

I%26#39;m still p**** you didn%26#39;t call when you were in Springfield!

Glad you had a great time. I can just pickture this group. And although some of us do like the Bellagio, we can still appreciate your trip and report.

Glad someone had the nerve to try craps and not get carried out for making first time mistakes.

    Keep the story coming.

    LOL Mrs. P.

I was just off Silverbrook by the new highschool/ old prison. I even went through Manassas by the PWP then took Yates Ford.

Call you? Do I know your #?

Damn that fog was THICK Thursday morning! It made 28 a parking lot at 7am.

    4 wheel drive

can i rent a jeep wrangler or somthing like it any where? we want to go to death valley and barker

    ranch.

    4 wheel drive

Dollar exclusively uses Chrysler (Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge) vehicles. In terms of Jeep, your choices are Liberty, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler (open air).

    Hope that Helps!

    Tahiti1028

    4 wheel drive

you can rent just about ANYTHING in vegas...hummers, vipers, vettes, even a lambo. so a wrangler would be no problem.

By the way, the Liberty is the cheapest of the three that I mentioned. The Wrangler would be the best for off-road activities, but it is the most expensive. The Grand Cherokee isn%26#39;t so good off-road. :)

do they come with gps if not can i rent one

Dunno, but keep in mind... you break it you buy it.

ABC is airing a show tommorrow night at 9pm EDT about Elvis and has many different artists doing his songs. I%26#39;m not sure how Vegas related the show is, but that%26#39;s the title.

    Elvis: Viva Las Vegas

I read that the show is about how Elvis changed the face of Vegas. I posted too, a while back, about the upcoming show.

Thanks for reminding us! I sure don%26#39;t want to miss it. I think he brought the idea of big name stars performing in Vegas.

    Thanks again for the reminder.

    Elvis: Viva Las Vegas

Wow and thanks for the tip since I%26#39;ve been out of town and haven%26#39;t watched TV for over a week!

Thank you, thank you very much.

Sorry Cha. I didn%26#39;t see your previous post and my kid just reminded me the show was tommorrow night. He%26#39;s not a Elvis fan, but I%26#39;m out of town and he read my notes for me. Funny thing is, he did need to move to get them so he must be sitting in my recliner dammit!

A WHOLE WEEK? Where were you Ducky... in the middle of the Outback?

Sort of...Kansas State Fair. I got to see baby piggies, and there were two mama cows that were going to give birth soon but didn%26#39;t while I was there. The theme this year was ';Hang with the Hogs';, and it was a pig couple on a Harley! LOL

I%26#39;m looking forward to this tonite myself.

*sniff* I feel so left out! :(

Got it set up to watch and record.

Kansas State Fair? That sounded like a real fair. Here in L.A. the county fair is so non-fair like it%26#39;s parodied in their adverts. (Hey, if NYC can have a rodeo, L.A. can have a fair!)

Does Las Vegas (whichever county it falls into, remembering that discusisn of late) have a county fair? Presume the State Fair is up north somewhere.

    Clark County

No no... it%26#39;s great info and a great deal.

It%26#39;s just that it seems tonites discussion is the ';Why I love the El Cortez'; crowd vs the ';Why I hate the El Cortez'; crowds.

    Have you stayed there before?

Yeah I noticed that too. No, I have never stayed downtown, but this is a spur of the moment trip I%26#39;m trying to plan for my mom%26#39;s birthday.

If she backs out, then me and sis will take the room and neither of them have been to Vegas. I%26#39;ve been 4 times and never stayed downtown and just thought, what the heck.

Thought this was a good deal and read good things about the renovated tour rooms. For that price, you can%26#39;t beat it IMO.

Thanks for your tips. I%26#39;ve been reading alot here.

    ;-)

Yeah you might as well keep checking out my thread. Tonight is the El Cortez night on TA. Dr. Vegas%26#39;s advice is much appreciated. I just posted some links about the recent rennovations. I would certainly go with the tower rooms from what I have read. Good luck on your booking if you take the trip. We may take some slack for it, but crap its Vegas. I am sure everyone will have fun!

Yeah you might as well keep checking out my thread. Tonight is the El Cortez night on TA. Dr. Vegas%26#39;s advice is much appreciated.

LOL, you only want to hear good things so go and see for yourself, I dont expect you to admit the place is a rat hole anyway.

Plus you have nothing to compare it to, so at this stage anything would be a palace.

You should also go for a nice walk at night and take in the sights.

El Cortez is a dirty, smoke and crack hore filled casino. I wouldn%26#39;t stay long because I was afraid my wallet would be stolen. Its very grimey and is mostly transients hanging out asking for spare change.

    DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!!

Mini TR- May 25- June 1, comped room, free play, cheapo trip

    Hi all,

I usually don%26#39;t write TR, (enjoy reading them), mostly because I visit Vegas quite often (every 6 week or so) and feel like mine%26#39;s really a cheapo trip than everyone else%26#39;s.. but this time I decided to share my experience. Will post as a reply.

Mini TR- May 25- June 1, comped room, free play, cheapo trip

Ok, so I have a thick file of comp offers from various casinos/ hotels, and I usually compare them all and take the best one. This trip, I wanted to stay at either Bally%26#39;s or Rio (using the total rewards offers) but my dates were partially sold out because of the memorial day weekend crowds rolling in.

I still wanted to go, so I decided to go with the Circus Circus offer. YES, I do know it%26#39;s Circus, but the offer was free nights stay in the one bedroom suite, $100 in dining credit, and $100 free slot play every day of my stay. Plus I had $150 more in free credit, and my boyfriend had some comp dollars that can be used toward dining. So we decided to take this offer.

I was a bit skeptical of their %26#39;one bedroom suite%26#39;- they don%26#39;t show any pictures of the suites on their website, it doesn%26#39;t even show up under the %26#39;reservation%26#39;. Then I googled it, tried to find anything about their suites.. nothing. I looked at the traveler pictures on TA, again, nothing but complaints and people reporting how awful it was to stay there.

When we checked in, we were sent to a VIP services, they already had our room keys, paper vouchers and everything taken care of. And the room-- was spacious! Huge bedroom with big bathroom, his and her sinks, separate living area with a wet bar. And it was a corner room and it seemed like not many people were on our floor, so it was very quiet throughout our stay. I know, it is still Circus, yes, there were hundreds of thousands of kids and adults running and screaming, but I usually prefer square footage. Maybe it%26#39;s just me.

About free slot play- I had this offer from them ';$100 free play, every day'; and it seems like you can use it all summer long (if you%26#39;re there), the amount is based on your previous play, so I got $100 every day and my boyfriend got $25 (he plays tables and I play slots). BUT, of course there%26#39;s a catch-- free credit is good ONLY during certain time of the day (of course), and this is how it works. 1/2 of the credit is good between 10am-2pm, and the rest is good between 6pm-10pm. Ah, I felt like they%26#39;re trying to trick us into %26#39;don%26#39;t leave our property%26#39; scheme. However, we managed to use the morning one BEFORE we headed out to lunch, and the evening one BEFORE we went to dinner. Without being forced to stay in the casino. To get to the strip we had to go through the casino anyways.. so it wasn%26#39;t really a problem for us.

$100 each day for this duration of the trip, I got to %26#39;try out%26#39; the machines I always wanted to try, without putting my own money. Yes, I repeat, I know it%26#39;s Circus, and a lot of people here would shred that offer saying I%26#39;ll never stay at Circus Circus!-- I used to think that way, and still, if I were to pay to stay here I probably won%26#39;t. But I got to try many machines for free ($50 each time and I counted my spins, and cashed out the winnings)- and we both had good days, one afternoon we hit bonus after bonus, and using my $50 credit I cashed out $360, other days I cashed out $230, $158, etc, not a jackpot, but I think it was a pretty good run for free play.

We mainly used our dining credit at the steak house. The food was good, and pretty pricy-- good that we had the dining credit! We didn%26#39;t go to the buffet, read the horrible reviews and quite honestly I%26#39;d rather go to Rio%26#39;s buffet and pay for it..

We did most of our gambling in downtown, and some at the slots-a-fun.

Overall we really enjoyed the trip. We were both skeptical and a bit nervous about staying at the Circus.. and yes it was very crowded for the holiday, (but it died down after Tuesday)- but we truly enjoyed it, and the best of all, it was a cheapo trip :)

Mini TR- May 25- June 1, comped room, free play, cheapo trip

Sorry I should have broken it down- I just noticed that I wrote a lot in one column. I do apologize.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, you got a great deal and most of all you had a great time! I too, find it important to have the extra room in a suite, I love it when I come in late and am not quite ready to fall into bed that I am not disturbing DH, or when he gets up extra early and does not disturb my sleep!! I know a lot of people just want a room to sleep and shower but to me that’s a very important part of my vacation. Also very nice when it’s a comp!! Good for you if it worked out to your expectations.

    Hey there!

You know what, I don%26#39;t blame you. Free nights in Vegas are a good thing, regardless of where they are (with some very important exceptions...!) - and as people always say, how often are you really in the room anyway? Sounds like you ended up having a pretty good experience at Circus Circus, so good for you! Vegas is what you make it - you make it something different every 6 weeks?!? Lucky you! I get out there every 3 months or so - if I could swing it every 6 weeks you bet your bottom dollar I would - even if it was at Circus Circus :)

Frugaltraveler2008 - sounds like it was a good deal and you converted your free play to take home cash.

I%26#39;ve been reading several posts on TA lately of people get quite a bit in free play $. Either 1) I%26#39;m not getting the offers, 2) the mailman is keeping my offers, or 3) I%26#39;m just not living right.

Can I ask if you get that in the US mail OR via email?

    Thanks all for your comments!!

I totally agree. I think the most important thing is to be able to say %26#39;I truly enjoyed my trip%26#39;- regardless of what your budget was, where you ate, and where you stayed. Because of the horrible reviews posted, we had our expectations really, really low. I prefer to have lower expectations and be surprised.

Yes, we get to go there quite often :) I noticed that many people take their annual trip, or a long vacation to the US from Europe or Australia, and I do know how important it is to have those special trips to be nice and perfect (I see a lot of people staying at the Wynn, Venetian, Mandalay etc). But for this trip we wanted to maximize the %26#39;comp%26#39;. And the winning using the free play actually paid for the trip. I have no complaints.

And to answer the question above, I received the Circus offer via email. They used to send me a postcard with promotions, but it seems like they switched to email offers. The email promo did contain my name and the player%26#39;s card # on it, and I did have to print it out and bring it with me.

All the other offers, (non-Circus offers) still come in the snail mail form. Hope this helps.

Hopefully you can post some pics of the suite so if someone actually might stay in that room they can see what it looks like! thats awesome and congrats on your successful cheapo trip! Good TR :o)

I wish I could post the pictures.. there was something wrong with the flash, and all the pics came out dark.. I do have a photoshop, so hopefully I can fix the problem.

Forgot to mention a couple of things:

I also had a dining credit at El Cortez, since we were going to downtown for late night gambling anyways, so we stopped by and used the dining credit at their steakhouse. Nothing spectacular, but it met my needs. It was a comped meal anyways, and it was way better than I expected. Also I had a coupon mailed to me from EC %26#39;free klondike bars%26#39;- I know it sounds silly but hey I%26#39;ll take them.. I did have $15 in free play there, and within 5 minutes they were gone. I took it as a sign and we walked out, headed toward the GN and 4Q for some gambling.

Did most of the gambling late night, mostly in downtown- with the exception of the Hilton Sportsbook. They call it Superbook for a reason-- I totally loved it there! Since I was there anyways, I played some slots there as well, well, I didn%26#39;t win (broke even after a couple of hours), but their drinks were pretty good, and cocktaik waitresses did come by often. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Quark%26#39;s! Will probably stay at the Hilton next time, they have been sending me the free room offers (and sometimes I do get calls from them too.. recorded messages about free stays and other offers, has anyone gotten calls from the Hilton?).

So, I hate you. OK, hate is a strong word.... Hate it you can drive there. Love your TR, thanks for shraring.................

What a great, inexpensive trip! I would have stayed for the free nights also. I recently received an offer for 5 free nights at the Golden Gate, and I am toying with the idea of staying there for my November trip if I get the offer again. I know it%26#39;s not the best place, but I only sleep in the room I have and can%26#39;t see spending a lot of money on a room just to sleep.

My first trip to Vegas... Trip Report 1985

    By request.

OK, It was 1985, I was a tall skinny 21 y/o and I had already bought and sold a condo by then for a tidy profit. I had a new truck and $$ in my pocket, so I invited a friend to join me for a cross country trip (Va to Ca) for the summer. (btw this is completely true)

Anyway after hitting all the must see%26#39;s (St Louis Arch, Osarks, Grand Canyon, Topeka Kansas LOL yada yada) the next stop HAD to be Vegas. I can remember vividly driving into that valley from the Hoover Dam and seeing this little oasis of buildings in the middle of the vast desert. (now houses) Along the way there were dozens of signs advertising Circus Circus and them having the most rooms in town. So we said why not?

On the way into town (I don%26#39;t think 15 was there then) we ended up on Fremont (don%26#39;t ask me how but this is all true) and drove toward the Plaza past 4 Queens, the Mint, Binions, Golden Nugget, etc. and I kept thinking, this is Vegas? So we hung a left on main and saw the Strip in the distance.....WOW

My first trip to Vegas... Trip Report 1985

ahhhh......the old memories. I think it was 1971....my parents took us on a camping trip across the united states for a month. We went to circus circus....we were told to stay at the table during lunch...and our parents went on the floor to gamble while our food was being cooked. The flashing lights were just captivating.

Then we saw that Buddy Rich was playing at (the Sands??)...so my Dad got tickets...and he gave his autographed drum stick to my brother !

We were sad to leave....but our next stop was Reno. We were excited...but it was pretty much a dump !

My first trip to Vegas... Trip Report 1985

    Hey, Doc!

You%26#39;re the same age as ME, eh?

Hey, doc. Is this part 1 or is this the whole TR?

    Trip Report- 1982-

Ahhh to be 21 again !! I had the luxury of having experienced Vegas many times prior to my 21st birthday, as my aunt lived here, however, this was the first time I was legal ! Previous trips amounted to staying at my aunts house while my parents had a hotel room on the strip and had all the fun.

I recall coming here all on my own from Colorado, by bus, and it was about a 10 hour drive. I arrived at the bus station and my aunt picked me up, we were off !

Oh man, the things I learned. Only hold your cards in one hand, never touch the chips after you place the bet, if you%26#39;re going to play the slots, watch the old lady feed it for an hour, then swoop in and play it after she%26#39;s filled it with her money instead of yours ! Always tip the cocktail waitress, never tip the dealer till you leave the table...good times..good times : )

    Dragon said.....

Almost 3000 posts and no good advice yet.

Lmaoooooooo I almost spit my drink!!!!!!

Sorry Doc...they closed the other thread..had to bring it here...LOL

What other thread? What have I missed? Help me Lowrance, you%26#39;re my only hope!

The one where he was saying that he was very close to 3000 posts... TA didn%26#39;t like it and shut him down. Off topic, you know.

lol, so now I%26#39;m Obe One?...or however you spell it!

Excellent! After all it is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.

    Obi-Wan Kenobi.

    Old Vegas....

I%26#39;ve been to Vegas many times but I%26#39;m only 29 and kind of missed out on the pre-Mirage old school Vegas. Can anyone share how it was before all the super casinos existed? Any casino come close to capturing that old Vegas feel?

    Old Vegas....

    Stardust, Riviera,Barbary Coast, downtown

    Old Vegas....

My first trip was in the early 80%26#39;s. It was a very different Vegas then. Still pretty mobbed up and to be honest, I think it was better then.

Casinos were full of table games with very few slots. Sure they were there but not like today.

Probably the closest you%26#39;ll get to that feel is downtown, but even there, its just not the same. Add the Tropicana to that list. If you go, walk around the casino and hallways and you%26#39;ll find tons of pictures from the good old days.

    I should also add this.

Back then, when you went out to gamble or whatever at night, you would dress for it. Men would wear coats and ties and women would wear dresses or skirts. Thats right, no fanny packs, shorts, sandals with socks etc. I love meeting my uncle and his wife in Vegas. They are old school (70%26#39;s) and always dress up in the evening.

Also, the movie Casino is on TV this weekend (Bravo or A%26amp;E) if you haven%26#39;t seen it befor, that is pretty much what is was like. Its based on a true story about the Stardust. Man I%26#39;m gonna miss that place.

    Dr,

The outfit you are wearing in your picture wouldn%26#39;t be acceptable in the old days?

True 04, but it does work when your at a county fair and it%26#39;s 95 with 65% humidity and the ole lady askes you for the picture!

Going back even further than Scorcese%26#39;s ';Casino'; is the original ';Ocean%26#39;s 11'; starring the Ratpack boys. That showed Vegas back in the early 60s, when most of the hotels were under 10 stories tall! What passed for a ';deluxe'; room back then would probably be referred to on this site as ';Motel 6 quality.'; I love learning about %26amp; collecting things from ';the old days'; but some things have indeed changed for the better! It%26#39;s too bad that Adelson had to bring down the Sands for his Venetian; it would be cool to still have that place around.

    Strip

Yes , I would have loved to have seen the Sands remaining . The whole atmosphere was different .

Even though dress codes have changed , we still dress up for dinner %26amp; shows . Can%26#39;t break that habit . ( Really don%26#39;t want to LOL )

    Thanks for your input!

1st, do see Casino. Wonderful! A little taste: Don Rickles plays a casino manager %26amp; is fabulous,

I went Vegas for the 1st time in 1972. Stayed at Ceasers Palace. (Won the trip). The two things I remember most throught the years is:

    1. If you were playing %26amp; ran out of cigarettes they GAVE you a pack. Then as the years went by it went to a mini pack with 4 cigarettes to 1 cigarette to now the cocktail waitress will ask you for $7 to get you a pack at the machine.

    2. As someone had mentioned you dressed for the shows. No prebought tickets. Shows included dinner (and great food). If you had a $20 you sat up front, possibly a booth. Last show I remembered like this was Liberace just before he passed. $35 for show %26amp; dinner, $20 tip %26amp; our arms were resting on the hardwood of the stage. Even shook his hand. A wonderful memory.

I don%26#39;t back quite as far as some of the other posters but I do remember a time when things were very different. I miss the Sands, Dunes, Desert Inn and even the Hacienda and all the other casinos. The hotels were hotels- no pyramids, roller coasters , pirate ships and things like that. Things seemed more glamorous then. It didn%26#39;t appear to be as crowded and if you played at a casino often enough they actually remembered you from one trip to the next . I had people greeting me with ';welcome back'; and using my name even after I was gone a while. That just doesn%26#39;t happen anymore-everything is so impersonal now. Going to shows was a big deal- and I don%26#39;t mean just the clothes. The emphasis was on gambling- not clubs, restaurants, etc. Comps were much easier to get- they practically begged you to come back. I remember when the DI introduced a few TITO vp machines(about 14 years ago) - nobody liked them so they quickly removed. In some ways I really miss those days but I am sure 10 years from now people will fondly recall how things were in 2006!

  • Vegas to Tahoe

From the posts I%26#39;ve found, it seems like a long drive (7/8/9 hours). It might be too much for my girls (2 and 4). Where would you recommend staying to break up the trip?

    Vegas to Tahoe

If you choose to break up the trip and traveling on I-95 north, Tonopah probably be your logical point for staying since it is about half way to Lake Tahoe and is fairly decent size town.

    Vegas to Tahoe

I did this trip in reverse a couple of months ago. I stayed overnight in Tonopah. Not a great deal there for kids but there%26#39;s a few places to stay and eat and it%26#39;s as good as you%26#39;re going to get on the long drive.

Calling UK from Las Vegas - What is the cheapest way?

    Hi

I am going to Las Vegas with a friend in a weeks time, staying at Excalibur Hotel.

Last time I was in Vegas, I mounted up a massive phone bill at the Excalibur by phoning my girlfriend back in the UK on the hotel room phone (stupid I know - too many free drinks at the Blackjack table!).

Trying to plan ahead this time, so was wondering if anybody could advise on the best/cheapest way of phoning UK from Vegas?

Excalibur Hotel charges $1/day for local phone calls.

What is a local number in Las Vegas - is it a number that begins with +1 702 ?

I was wondering if there were any US phone cards that enabled you to call a UK number via a local Nevada number - and can see ecallchina sells one.)

I would really appreciate any assistance from someone that has experience in doing this - don%26#39;t want to get ripped off buying a phonecard that doesn%26#39;t work.

    Thanks

Calling UK from Las Vegas - What is the cheapest way?

I abandon my SO and 9 year old son once a year so have to phone home every day.

I used to buy the AT%26amp;T card in walmart I think the $10 dollar card lasted two trips, I would presume these are readily available elsewhere so you probably don%26#39;t need to slog out there especially for the card. You only pay the dollar to the hotel for the local call and then put in a code and the international number you want, it is very simple. Now we have free international calls via Orange broadband so I phone them once and they phone me every morning (after school for my boy).

    Hope this helps

Calling UK from Las Vegas - What is the cheapest way?

The cheapest way we have found phoning home from america is buy opening an account with the following

online phonecard company Redstones in association with Virgin

    callingcardsonline.co.uk/virginIntTraveller/鈥?/a>

Basically you simply use a debit card or credit card to open an account from a minimum of 拢10. They send you an email with an account number and a numerical password.....along with a list of numbers you have to phone depending on what country you are travelling to. To make a call you simply dial the number based in america, punch in your account number (it tells you your remainding balance) then you ring the uk number. If you want to make sure you always have credit you can actually choose when setting up your account for the company to add 拢10 to your account if you get down to 拢5. (dont take all the paperwork just get a piece of card and write the relevant bits on it and keep in your wallet...if you lose it all u will have to do is access ur email somewhere and right it down again)

It really is the cheapest option we have used and when we were in vegas in january we phoned home loads and got nowhere near to using our 拢30. We will be using this account in fuerteventura this summer and vegas in september.

I know some hotels wont let you use a phonecard system but I do know we used the pay phones in excalibur and planet hollywood along with the payphones outside the CVS

    Hope this helps

Go to CVS and buy a phone card there, they do sell them in airports in the US but they are more expensive in airports. All you do then is use the telephone in your room, the number you are calling (on the back of the phone card) will be a toll free number. Ask at the front desk of the hotel what to dial on the room phone if you want to call a toll free number. Then, just follow the directions on the back of the phone card, easy.

When calling the UK, 011 44 and then take off the zero at the beginning of the number you are calling.

My code used to be 0208...take off the first zero.

Just make sure your hotel doesn%26#39;t charge you for using a calling card or toll-free number--some of them add a surcharge to those calls. If that%26#39;s the case, a payphone in the lobby with a calling card, while not very private, would be your cheapest option.

was just wondering if these cards can be used to call a cell phone too as we will be calling both while we are in vegas, or is there a seperate card that is best for cells.

    thanks

Have to agree the CVS card lasts for ages whether yon call landlines or mobiles,I take it back each year and top it up and it works fine.

    Free play WOW!

Let me begin by saying that I am a low roller.

Any of you that have players cards I%26#39;m sure have experienced around your birthday, getting a ';come and stay free for a few nights and we%26#39;ll give you $100 in free play for your birthday';.

Well, in the mail the other day was such an offer from MB/tH. ';Come stay in a suite for two nights at either property, $200 in dining credits and $$450.00 in free play!!!!'; Wow, I%26#39;ve never seen that before, they must be getting desperate for players. If you stay Sun-Wed you get an addt. $100 in free play.

Bummer is that I am already going to Lake Tahoe in June so I doubt I can use this great offer. Too bad I can%26#39;t share.

    Free play WOW!

Have you stayed at MB or just played on their players club?

What do YOU consider a low roller? I budget $100-200/day for gambling; I consider myself a low roller. BUT I usually play poker, so few comps. BUT am beginning to learn the value of players cards while at table games or video poker....

    Free play WOW!

Cool beans cassley! For that amount of free play $$ I would be tempted to reconsider Lake Tahoe! That%26#39;s a lotta free play moolah.

I have never received such a generous birthday offer but there%26#39;s always hope huh?

    Happy Birthday btw!

    Holy crap!

My best was MC suites, $175, and Lance Burton tickets. You must be a much high low roller than I am, lol.

Our Indian casino gives us beef jerky and a coffee mug on our birthdays.

    Lowrance,

Like I said, I usually get the $50 to $100 free play on my birthday month so I was as surprised as anyone. Maybe I can squeeze a weekend in June, I just hate to say bye bye to that much free play, free rooms and $200 dining credit. I mostly play VP, .25 and 1.00. Sometimes the .05.

    kbunde,

I stayed there last Sept. for three nights and that was the last time I used my players card. We used to stay and play at Bellagio but never got such a great offer from them.

I use to think that free play $ was more liquid than real money - once it hit a slot machine, it evaporated.........poof! That is until last year....at the Mirage....playing on the Hexbreaker machine (I think for a nickel a line) - hit the bonus several times and walked away with over $500 on $75 free play.

Good luck with whatever you do =)

Ummmm. unless they have made a mistake, you HAVE to be my version of a medium high roller. Now way have I ever been given free nights in suites or dining credits of any kind, let alone free play. I think I lose plenty (while betting my version of plenty) and this year I am getting two free nights at Imperial Palace and/or Standard Flamingo, with no free play or dining credits. Now THAT%26#39;s a low roller. Plus, I get no offers on my birthday.

u2tuf, I%26#39;ve already reported that I hit $1800 using my birthday free play at the Beau Rivage on the coast. Nothing like it! Last week I cashed out $70 on a penny machine playing with $20 free play.

    Camille

My birthday is July, but I didn%26#39;t get that offer yet from MP/TH and we have given them a lot of slot play in the past few years. I did get an offer from the Bellegio for 3 nights free room, food and beverage for 2 at Olives, the buffet, The cafe, and a few other dining spots there, (not the top tier restaurants), tickets to Cirque%26#39;s O and $250.00 free play.

Mirage, TI, Luxor, MC, NYNY have offered 3 nights in a suite, $250.00 to $400.00 free play and various different offers on food credits. I%26#39;ve hardly ever played at MC, Mirage or TI.

I wonder why MP/TheHotel are just currently sending me offers for concert tickets and free room, and no free play?

    Best mall in Vegas?

    Hello,

My wife and i plan on doing a little bit of shopping while we%26#39;re in Vegas.

I%26#39;m just curious to know what others think is the best mall.

We%26#39;ll be looking to buy things like trainers, t-shirts etc

So far i%26#39;ve found several different Malls

Fashion Show Mall on the Strip

Las Vegas Premium Outlets a taxi ride away

    and

Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas about 30 minutes away

I%26#39;d be interested to know other%26#39;s thoughts on the best mall

    Thanks.

    Best mall in Vegas?

When are you guys going to Vegas? If it%26#39;s mid summer, or in winter, you might want to consider one thing: would you like to stay indoors while you shop? My favorite is the Premium Outlets, but it%26#39;s not an indoor mall. Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas (Primm Outlet) is quite far- if you won%26#39;t have a rental you%26#39;ll need to ride the shopper%26#39;s shuttle.

By the way are you looking to buy name brand items (DKNY, CK, Ralph Lauren etc) or it doesn%26#39;t really matter? It%26#39;s not a mall but you might want to check out Ross (discount store)- you can find sweatshirts and t-shirts and so on at good prices.

    Best mall in Vegas?

Fashion Show Mall is probably the best all purpose mall with the largest variety of stores and it%26#39;s right on the Strip.

For top end shopping and a real ';luxury experience'; then definitely check out Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian. These are tourist attractions in their own right and you should definitely see them even if you don%26#39;t plan to shop there. Miracle Mile mall at Planet Hollywood offers more mainstream shopping than these two and there%26#39;s also Mandalay Place, a small mall between Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

The newest large shopping development is Town Square, a mile or so south of Mandalay Bay.

The two outlet places are worth visiting if you want to pick up bargains. Premium Outlets (close to Downtown) is the favorite of most visitors but Las Vegas Outlet Center (south of the airport) is ok too.

I wouldn%26#39;t bother with Fashion Outlets out at Primm unless there%26#39;s a store there that you simply HAVE to visit that%26#39;s not at a closer location.

This question and others very similar to it are asked on here every few days or so. Use the forum search to read hundreds of old posts about this. Also check out this link:

    http://www.vegas.com/shopping/

We have been to Vegas the last couple of years and tried many of the malls

Previous TA advice seemed to suggest that Primm was not worth the time based on the availablilty of good shopping in/around the strip and therefore we havent been there.

The best idea is to check on the web what stores are at each site in case you have a favourite brand.

LV premium outlets was good - we picked up cheap CK,Polo,Timberland etc..(worth a quick taxi ride)

    Fashion Show mall has department stores that had some sale items covering various good brands, along with the ';single brand stores';

The shops in Caesars were also good for higher end designers - Boss/Gucci etc - although no sales

However remember at any of the three above, they are much cheaper than in the UK

The only one I wouldnt go back to is the mall up by Luxor/M. Bay

Many, many thanks for your quick and detailed replies.

I was edging towards Premium outlets as i want to fill my boots, or suitcase, with Nike and Converse. The wife on the other hand liked the sound of the Fashion Outlets.

    Once again thanks!

    Wedding in Vegas

I am getting married in vegas July 2nd.This is a 2nd time so there will be just us.Thought about just doing it at the civil marriage office. Anyone done that before?Would rather spend money on a great dinner and entertainment than a big wedding.

    Wedding in Vegas

when I got married in LV (2004) there were lots of people getting married downtown at the municipal building where you get the license. We got married at the Little Church on the West (across the road from Mandalay Bay) and it wasn%26#39;t that costly maybe $100. and they made it so special.. It was just the 2 of us but they played music and we had a minister.. they also made a tape of the service.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

    Wedding in Vegas

Tank you I will check it out.

    Trip Report May 25th - 30th.

Trip Report May 25th - May 30th. Sorry this took so long.

Up early to catch a morning flight at Pearson International in Toronto.

I went with my best friend of 21 years. She is a very fast driver, and she managed to get a speeding ticket on the way to the airport. 42km over the speed limit, yikes.

Very few people on the flight to Chicago (American Airlines) Which was great.

Chicago to Las Vegas was another story (American as well) packed to the rafters, including a 400lb woman who sat behind me, took up two entire seats and her knees were pushing on my seat back and I couldn’t recline at all for the entire 4 hour flight. Which wouldn’t be so bad but I am afraid of flying AND claustrophobic, so it was touch and go, but I kept settled.

Background of the two travelers. I have a very physical job, athletic %26amp; organized I am 35 years old %26amp; make a good living. My girlfriend is a party girl who is a blast, fun, drinks a fair amount, eats like crap %26amp; never exercises she is 34 years old %26amp; makes a few dollars above minimum wage. We have been on lots of 3 day vacations before, but never 5 days. I NEEDED some time off work, opened a new clinic in September and have been working 15 - 20 hour days for almost a year. I just wanted to not work, go sit on a beach and read. She wanted to party, drink, eat %26amp; “do stuff”. At first she was thinking of New York or San Fran…I suggested Vegas instead, as I knew the hotels and pools were relaxing, its cheaper %26amp; less of a city than the others … she jumped all over the Vegas idea.

Since I am organized (to a fault) I put together an itinerary, keeping in mind that she gets tired very quickly due to the fact that she is generally lazy and not fit. Due to the fact that we had to go a little cheap, I decided on the Orleans, many said good value for the money %26amp; I liked the fact that they had both sushi and a prime rib restaurant and shuttle bus to the strip.

The rest to be posted as Replies.

    Trip Report May 25th - 30th.

    Day 1.

So we arrive in Vegas, we take the bus to the Orleans and get to drive past the MGM, NYNY, Luxor etc…which was good, give her an idea of what things look like. She seemed under impressed but said that “everything looks like a movie”.

We get to the Orleans, check in, nice peeps at the front desk, I didn’t bother with the 20 dollar trick as I knew most of the rooms were standard and it was full that night. However I did get the requested 2 queens, smoking room %26amp; asked for a fridge to be sent up.

Last time I stayed at the Luxor which took forever to get around %26amp; customer service was non-existent, so to get to our room in 2 minutes was a total joy to me. I’m already liking Vegas even more than before. The room was clean, beds were super comfy. I had read lately on the reviews of people complaining that the beds were very hard. I believe its because they were brand new mattresses, to me they were just fine. Like others I felt the bathroom set up was kinda weird, closet in bathroom, super heavy sliding door, but I didn’t care, I’m on vacation.

We get to the room, my gf seems under impressed again and says “I’m exhausted, is it okay if I lay down for awhile?”. I say, no problem…Ill go check the place out. Got my club card and free buffet coupon for breakfast or lunch!!! Blew $150 in about 2 hours. Wandered back up to the room and she was sound asleep. I sat down and started to read on of the 5 books I had brought with me. About an hour later she woke up starving so off we went to the Buffet at the Orleans.

The buffet was mediocre, the salad bar and desert bar were fantastic, which was great because those are the two stations I hang out at most. The rest of the buffet was less exciting, the roast was a good flavour but a little overcooked and grisly. The shrimp was good, but the rest was just stuff (pizza, tacos, pastas) nothing to get excited about. However, my gf thought she had died and gone to heaven, she thought it was fantastic, and who am I to say otherwise, so I kept my opinion to myself.

So via the itinerary I wanted to wait until dark, take the shuttle to the strip so she can get the greatest impact. The shuttle was fine, quick, drivers were great, came quite often. I tipped a dollar each time, my gf says “do I have to tip?” I laugh and say “no, you don’t HAVE to”.

We get off the bus on the strip and start to wander, lookin for drinks. We got the meter tall strawberry daiquiris. I’m not much of a drinker, but they were awesome. Signed up for club card at Casino Royale, got $50 in free play. Again my friend seems generally unimpressed and tells me she just wants more booze. We gradually make our way down to TI for Sirens, signed up and played at bit at the Venetian, the club card comes with a cute little chain with a V on the end, I think we got $5 or $15 worth of play for signing up.

Got to TI at midnight and couldn’t even get CLOSE to seeing the show…and why??? Because there were too many strollers. Yes, that’s right. The best free ADULT show on the strip and we couldn’t get close to it AT MIDNIGHT because everyone had at least 2 kids under 4 and a stroller with them. Full on sidewalk jams because of the number of strollers. We stopped and moved to the side, this group was coming towards us, shoulder to shoulder, jam packed, all of the sudden this lady reaches down and picks this kid up off the sidewalk, he couldn’t have been 3. I was disgusted, offended %26amp; just wanted to yell out “GO TO DISNEYLAND” and save the booze and sex for the adults. Don’t get me wrong, kids in kid places are fine. I expected to see lots of kids at the pools, restaurants and definitely our hotel, but come on people.

Vegas Time Warp…since we couldn’t get to see Sirens, we decided to go into TI and go to the ladies. My gf walks into one stall, I walk into the one beside her, we do our girl things, 45 seconds tops. I come out and there are pylons around our stall and janitorial staff with a mop and bucket. I walk around, wash my hands and look towards my gf stall. Right in front of it, there is a puke. So when she walks out I say “careful on the floor” she sees, walks around. Here is the time warp. In the 45 seconds it took for us to pee, someone barfed, notified staff %26amp; she got there, put the pylons up…WTF? I tipped her $5 and said “wow, great job”. just cuz.

We walk back out onto the strip and my gf looks at me and says “Im exhausted, can we please go back to the hotel?” Im surprised but sure, we take a cab back. She gets a sub at subway and heads to bed, I gamble and win back some of the money I had lost earlier. My budget being $100 per day for slots. I wander up to the room around 3 and crash, after reading for a bit.

    Trip Report May 25th - 30th.

I enjoyed your report so far, I will be interested in reading the rest of it. Sounds as if your gf needs a lot of sleep! Wondering if she might have slept her way through Vegas!

Hmmmmm... I remember going on a cruise and one of my buddies was a Mgr of a ToysRus at busy season...slept the first 3 days of the cruise!

But your girl wanted to party??!!! Salp that woman...or maybe better yet...she%26#39;s helping you read more...lol

    Slap even!

Nice TR so far but geez, wonder if you%26#39;re goig to bash your g/ the whole time. Nice freind

    Day 2.

As I said before, my friend gets tired quickly, so when I did up the itinerary I put the busiest day at the beginning and less and less as the week goes on.

Today is the busiest, centre strip, all day. Bacon Breakfast Buffet at the Orleans. No that is not what it is called, I call it that because my gf LOVES bacon, so on the itinerary I called it that, and I sure wasn’t wrong, lots and lots of bacon. Stay away from the Eggs Benedict…I wont give an explanation just “yuck”. However lots of good fruit, and a few other things that were pretty good, and I’m not much of a breakfast person.

Off we go on the shuttle, things are a blur for this day but here it goes.

Signed up for club card at Paris (free t shirt and coupon book),

    Gondola ride at the Venetian,

    club cards at bill’s,

Club card at Planet Hollywood free $15 in play and free entry into the slot tourney, won $100+ on wheel of fortune!!! I thought the casino at Planet Hollywood was great, I loved the glass balls…I did however manage to get hoodwinked by the time share guy, he was good, blindsided me, but we said no. Slot tourney was weird could have been fun except this woman beside me was crazy, put me off my game, but it was so funny I couldn’t even play.

Went to the Flamingo to check out the wildlife there, my gf liked that a lot and took tonnes of pics.

Went to Harrah’s for the buffet lunch, had a $5 off coupon. The buffet there was pretty good, but I wasn’t overly hungry, had some sushi rolls, salad, roast beef…couldn’t even bring myself to have desert.

Got a shirt for my DH at Margaritaville

Stopped at one of the junk shops and checked out the Henna shop at the back, my gf and I got a henna tattoo from Guy, then I went and got beer and we stood on the strip admiring our tats and shared a beer with Guy.

By this time my gf is exhausted its about 8pm, we get on the bus and head back to the Orleans. My gf went for a nap and I went to gamble…COULD NOT LOSE. Up another $100 at this point. I had my accumulated ticked changed into cash at the booth by a human, tipped her and she was super thankful. So for the trip spent approximately $200 and won $200 and that is just fine with me. Read some more and hit the bed around 2am.

I’m sure I missed stuff, but the day was a blur.

    Day 3.

Pool day and Freemont Night. We missed the bacon breakfast buffet but had the lunch buffet instead %26amp; she headed out to the pool.

I went on a mission to find the Frank Sinatra Stamp…I called the closest post office to the Orleans, but they didn’t have it, so I had to go to the main Post office. I got a cab he drove me there, turned OFF the meter while he waited for me, I got two pages of the stamps, one for collection for my DH and the other for a request. He wanted a post card sent to him, with the Sinatra Stamp and it would have the Vegas post stamp on it too…the stamps cost like $20 the cab ride came to $26 total but I gave him $40 cuz his conversation was great, he got the doors for me and of course he turned off the meter to wait, great service, His name was Andy. Took the post card with the stamps to the Biz Centre at the Orleans so they could mail it, the guy at the counter just about had a heart attack “Those are collector stamps?!?!” I laughed and said I know, I took out the page of stamps that I keep for the collection to show him. They are beautiful, we ooo’d and aaaa d about them and he told me about being there on the strip for the unveiling.

I joined my gf out by the pool and I read and read and read, my girlfriend did some word searches %26amp; we just chilled, it was wonderful. We didn’t actually go in the pool, but the palm trees and our chaise lounge’s in the shade were heavenly. Had soda from the bar there, the guy was not friendly…blah, I gave him $1 anyway.

She went in for a nap, 2 hours later I went in, we got ready and had dinner at the Orleans buffet AGAIN, any time I suggested otherwise she declined cuz she loved the buffet.

Shuttle to the stip, caught the Deuce to downtown. We sat on the top 2nd row back from the front, there was a crazy youngish lady in front of us who would NOT stop talking %26amp; she smelled funny. I felt bad cuz no one would talk to her, but then once I talked to her she wouldn’t stop…arg .

Freemont was WAAAAAAAAAAY more fun than I remember, in fact, next time I think Id like to stay down there. It was clean and fun, we signed up for all the club cards, free plays, free dice, big drinks, caught 3 of the canopy shows…Queen (good), fire %26amp; girl dancing (blah), Free Bird (Cannot Change) by Lynyrd Skynyrd (fantastic).

At this point it is 1am %26amp; my party girl gf looks at me and says…I need sleep, I’m exhausted. I’m pretty easy going, but at this point I have to admit I was a little miffed. We have yet to “party” in Vegas, and I was havin a great time downtown %26amp; we had only been there for 2 hours, otherwise we had basically done nothing all day. The line-up for the Deuce was ridiculous so we took a cab. $30 from Freemont to the Orleans including tip.

Got back to the Orleans, my gf went to bed, I went and gambled and won again…by the time I went back to the room around 4, I was now up $100 (penny slots btw) I read for a bit and then fell asleep, I have now read 2 books and I am on my 3rd. If you’re a reader then you know that a vacation that you can get in a few good books is fantastic.

    Day 4

Today was the day I surprised my gf with some upper scale surprises. As I told you she doesn’t make much $$ but I wanted to have at least one day and night that she can see how Vegas “should” be done.

We packed an overnight bag with evening clothes, bathing suits and makeup. Took the shuttle to the Gold Coast, had the lunch buffet there. It was different from the Orleans, but similar in quality, again the salad bar and desert bar were good. Wandered over to the Palms.

My gf LOVED the Palms, she decided that next time she wants to stay there. The casino was nice, signed up for the club card, put in $5 in a penny slot and won about $50...I was happy with that. Also, I needed a new Hoodie and so far had not even seen a sweatshirt for sale. I found a beautiful pink hoodie with Palms across the front, very good quality, very happy. Back to the Gold Coast to take the shuttle to the MGM Grand where I had booked a night.

She wandered off to the restroom and I checked in, the first thing I said was “You may be surprised and happy, but I DON’T care if I have a strip view” “Really?” she says…”well that may work out really well for you, please wait one minute” She picked up the phone, talked to someone and VOILA we were upgraded to the Signature at MGM. After about a 30 minute walk, we finally got to our room. It was really nice. I forgot to ask for 2 queens, so there was a King and a pull out. Flat screen HD tv, tv in the rest room, glass shower, Jacuzzi tub, blender, toaster, doorbell…just nice. My gf LOVED it.

Off to NYNY for Zumanity. While we were waiting we had chocolate shakes %26amp; I put $5 into the GIANT $1 SLOT. Could not lose. $5 turned into $15, then $30 then my gf said “max bet max bet” so I did. 777 and I won $100!!!! No tickets when you cash out tho…nope, clang clang clang for must have been 10 minutes, I think I wont about $150 total of these giant coins. Now its time for the show, and I don’t have time to cash these things in, so we split them up into 2 buckets and took them into Zumanity with us…hehehe

I know many people disliked Zumanity, but I loved it. It was fun, funny, crass, stupid, sexy, amazing. I was never bored and many times amazed. I would recommend it to certain people, and although I typically hate when there is audience participation, for some reason they made it fun and comfortable to watch others. If you are in anyway uptight or expect the see the awesome stage productions of Ka or Mystere then you may be disappointed, but I liked it.

Made our way back to the MGM, stopped at the Lions, had no desire to gamble. Tried and tried to find a place to buy snacks, soda and gum…to no avail.

Got to the room, my gf said she was exhausted and could we please stay in. Wow…this was our last evening in Vegas and my party girl gf has not even whooped it up once…strange %26amp; somewhat disappointing.

However, never one to dwell on it, I got naked, got into the most incredibly comfortable robe on the planet and said “let’s get room service” I’m excited cuz finally I get to eat some food of quality. I ordered the chicken Caesar Salad, 2 bottles of water %26amp; 2 bottles of Sprite/7up, she got a cosmo, chicken fingers and fries and some fancy ice cream thing, Then I took my comfy body to the shower…ahhhhhh

I turned on the movie Love Actually, which I could see perfectly though the glass shower door, as it didn’t fog up and I could actually hear it, any other place I have stayed with a tv in the room, as soon as you turn on the shower or turn on the jets of the tub you cant hear the tv unless you crank it right up…I felt a little guilty about being in the desert and having a 30 minute shower…but I did it anyway. The soap was amazing, citrus %26amp; the water was conditioned, so my skin and hair were like silk afterwards. I kept the soap to bring home.

The food arrived, we ate while in our robes, I sat on the side of the bed and the attendant pushed it right up to me and got my gf a chair. We ate and finished the movie. My Caesar salad was deconstructed %26amp; fantastic…the elements are so simple yet quality dressing, quality lettuce %26amp; quality chicken turn a plain ole salad into a meal of delight. I tried some of her chicken fingers with the honey mustard dip, amazing. The bill came to $85 and I tipped $20. I finished off a book and started another and fell asleep on a cloud. We shared the bed for a bit, then she got too hot and pulled out the sofa bed and told me it was comfy as well.

Day 5 - Last Day in Vegas, MGM Pool Day.

The MGM Pools are to die for…we checked out at 11 (were not charged the resort fee of $15) and headed straight to the pool, found a couple of lounges away from lots of people, right on the lazy river. We took turns going around it…so fun.

Had a couple of drinks, the bartender was super cool, had the best sandwich EVER. The ham and cheese toasted thing…$12 and it was worth every penny…so good. We sat around the pool for about 5 hours, I finished off my 4th book and my gf slept most of the day.

Back to the Orleans, she napped, I gambled. Checked out, NO RESORT FEE was charged and we were not charged for the fridge at $15 per day.

Took a cab to the airport, looked at my gf, she was STILL exhausted and truly never seemed to recover from the trip there…she isn’t sick, just needs to eat better and get some exercise. I had a good time, but we could have gone to Cuba or the Dominican for a ¼ of the price to sit around, tan, nap and read. Ill know for next time…she was ready to go home. She asked me “what about you” I said I could stay for weeks and no I am not really ready to go home. Got the flight out at Midnight, uneventful.

Although the trip wasn’t anything like I had expected, I had a good time and got the much needed R%26amp;R that I was looking for %26amp; of course read a whole bunch. After the flight back to Toronto I had officially finished 5 books. 4 cheezy romance novels and a who dun

    Buf.

Hell yes Im gonna bash my friend a bit...and I am a fantastic friend...I am however honest.

I went along with whatever SHE wanted to do, I did not complain about anything while we were there. I made the most of it %26amp; had a good time.

I however feel it is my right to at the very least be able to b!tch about it.

Vegas was HER choice, so she could party %26amp; all she did was sleep.

    Stacey : )

    Ace,

OK! LOL After I read your trip report I can see why you were saying what you were. I am 36-older then you both LOl and you better believe when I go in July I will be out partying more then that! I wish you would%26#39;ve. Sounds like you had a nice time, but could%26#39;ve been better. Thanks for the TR, every time I read one makes me wish I was leaving today instead of in a month.

    buf.

My disspointment is actually not for myself but for her. I did actually warn her ahead of time that we would be walking ALOT so I asked her to ';train'; for Vegas by getting more exercise than normal.

I feel bad because I really wanted her to have a good time, and she says she did, but I dont really think she did.

Im not sure if its because she didnt like Vegas or because she was so tired.

Anyway, she wasnt the fun, crazy, party girl that I am used to.

In fact, funny enough the week before we left I said to my DH ';What if she gets arrested in Vegas?'; THATS how crazy she is...so the person I took to Vegas was a mere shadow of the friend I know.

I has me concerned for her health, and after she recovered from the trip (which took 2 nights of 14 hour sleep) I did talk to her about eating better and getting more exercise.

Cuz she is my best friend, and after 21 years I want her around and healthy for at least 63 more.

I personally feel like a new woman, focused, energized etc...so the trip was perfect for me...who knows maybe if we had have partied I would be so refreshed...so be it.

    Bad Mistake, what to do?

Okay, first let me start with this. I have over the last 10 weeks been dealing with a rotator cuff injury and the doctor and a 2nd doctor. It%26#39;s all been a mess. And the pain when I try to sleep or even move my arm for that matter is REAL BAD!

On top of that I kept putting off buying my airline ticket...Could have got a non-stop UsAirways 10 weeks ago for around 490.00. Now I am looking at 618.00 jetblue with one stop.

Would you pay this...Keep in mind I have all four days comped at Paris.

I know I should have bought the ticket weeks ago but was nervous because of the doctor%26#39;s appointments and the chance of surgery.

Which BTW I find out this Tuesday if I will have surgery with a new doctor. But will still go to Vegas I think...maybe...lol

    Thanks for any input...

    JC

    Bad Mistake, what to do?

That really bites. By all means wait to hear what the Dr. says before you buy tickets. Is this the only time you can go? I%26#39;m sure you can get comped rooms at Paris another time. Would you have fun in Vegas in pain? Are you going by yourself?

    Bad Mistake, what to do?

Yeah, I am going to be going by myself. Well I am really only in pain at night when I try to sleep. I can control the pain during the day.

As far as going another time, it would be next year before I would be able to get away. And I really need to get away. If I have to have surgery I will be off work at the most 120 days.

The problem is if you gamble, you will be hunched over tables and machines, pressing buttons, handling cards...all things that can exacerbate a sore shoulder.

I%26#39;ll admit I%26#39;m a big baby with a low threshold for pain, so I don%26#39;t really know how bad bad is for you.

Maybe the hot sunshine, massages, constant drinking will help your pain - who knows?

But you can%26#39;t just wish something to be what it%26#39;s not.

Probably not what you want to hear but you asked for input...

I think I would wait until Tuesday to make my decision. The price difference between the two is $128.00....frankly, if I really needed to go on vacation, I would book the trip.

Couple of things...prices probably won%26#39;t come down much, it could cost more to vacation someplace else, and, if you gamble - even on the penny machines, you have the chance of winning some of the money back -- if course the down side is you could loose more.

You can also save some money by using coupons in LV...they are everywhere, and readily accepted with no problem.

I usually fly Southwest who allows you to rebook is the prices fall....I don%26#39;t know the USAirways policy - I would also check that out before I booked.

Hope you have a quick recovery, and a good vacation!

Wow! What do you do that would keep you out of work for 24 weeks for a rotator cuff surgery? If it would keep you out of work that long, I can%26#39;t imagine you going to Vegas. As strong a pull as Vegas is to me, I would have to take care of my health first.

As for the airfare, $618 sure sounds like a lot out of Denver. What days are you going? Do you have Southwest%26#39;s DING downloaded on your computer? I often see specials for Denver to LV. I just visited the SWA site and put in random dates (actually used the dates I am traveling) and a roundtrip non-stop both ways was only $308.

ciamru2, a friend just PMed me and let me know of my ';Bad Mistake';. I saw Denver and never saw NC. I just automaticatically thought CO. Sorry. Hope you work out your problem and are able to enjoy a trip to Vegas.

It%26#39;s Denver North Carolina, not Denver Colorado.

Thanks to everyone who has and will answer with advice. I do need to take care of my health, but also need to think of the stress. Getting away will help get rid of some of the stress.

With rotator cuff surgery they start with a scope and if they can%26#39;t get the repair through the scope then they will have to cut my arm open to do the repair. So if they have to cut my arm that would be the reason for the 120 days.

I will make the call on Tuesday I think. More input would be great though. Anyone out there have this surgery before???

Had that surgery several years ago. If you think you are in pain now wait until therapy. I would wait as long as you could after surgery to go.

    Good luck.
