Anyone considering a trip to see Skywalk at the Reservation Rim (aka West Rim) of Grand Canyon should read the NY Times review.

Skywalk West Rim Grand Canyon
Mmmm, interesting article.
Can%26#39;t really blame the Hualapai folk for wanting to make a living out of their biggest (and perhaps only)asset, but at the same time I don%26#39;t think anyone (other than those with a financial interest perhaps) really wants to see it developed into some kind of theme park.
I think the limited developments at the South Rim demonstrates that a tasteful balance can be struck without detracting from the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Skywalk West Rim Grand Canyon
very interesting if cynical article written i guess by a born pessimist.....having visited the west rim and skywalk recently its quite hard to understand how it can be viewed in such a negative light, drawing on technicalities such as the fact it is not the real grand canyon, has the world been conned by david jin or is the columnist clutching at straws?
its 2008,all places of interest are exploited to fulfil their financial potential, why pick on the native americans, having said that i guess i can see the irony
i would suggest visitors to the skywalk would leave as enlightened and satisfied as we did, along with the bus loads of happy customers we were surrounded by.
It is an interesting article. Skywalk has always sounded like too much money to pay for what it is. JMHO.
They don%26#39;t even let people bring cameras?
Truman I believe you can bring cameras. You just can%26#39;t take them onto the Skywalk.
Another over priced tourist rip off.
It aint the Indians making all the money.
';bus loads of happy....';
I don%26#39;t think so, either.
As usual, the money goes to the investors.
NOT the indians.
And it%26#39;s big money! The cost of going to the reservation is exponentially higher than the cost of going to the Grand Canyon Nat%26#39;l Park.
And what burns me is the deceitful way they market and advertise the place. I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s still up, but at one time there was a billboard near Kingman that was advertising the Skywalk, but used a photo that was taken at the South Rim. The views aren%26#39;t even similar.
any of these armchair experts actually been there?
No. No.
I know I haven%26#39;t.
happyhubby, for a visitor from the UK to refer to a Sedona, Az resident (and TA expert) an an ';armchair expert'; on the Grand Canyon is at best unfair and at worst insulting.
I%26#39;m glad you had an enjoyable trip to the ';West Rim';, but don%26#39;t kid yourself that you%26#39;ve seen anything remotely as amazing as the Grand Canyon in all its full glory.
