Greyhound bus station--horrible???

So I%26#39;m taking the Greyhound from Los Angeles and my friend will be picking me up there around 2am. I should be arriving in Vegas around midnight.

I was planning on walking into a casino and hanging out for the two hours. I%26#39;ve been to Vegas many times but never to this area.

Should I be freaked out?

Not if you are looking to meet some hoodrats and buy some pharacy goods.

The walk from the Greyhound station to the magical canopy over Fremont street is about 2 minutes. Once you get to the canopy I%26#39;d guess your heart will be at ease. Hopefully you can make the 2 minute walk without freaking out. Enjoy your stay.

No freaking out needed. Walk the two blocks to Fremont and go in and out of casinos at your leisure. Midnight ain%26#39;t that bad of a time. What day? If it is a weekend it will be a bit busier.

I agree with REH, get yourself under the canopy on Fremont Street and have your friend pick you up by one of the bigger hotels there like the Golden Nugget.

Good luck and be safe!

Agree with the choking, but it is helpful if you are looking to buy some things to make the gambling losses feel a litlle better.

blondeambassador,

Bus stations in the US seem to attract a less than desirable elment and are most times in less desirable areas, but the station in Las Vegas is very close to the Fremont St. experience and the canopy above it that has a light show and is very touristy and usually busy.

The ';magical canopy'; (a term I believe I coined) is considered by some to be much safer than any area around it so that%26#39;s why people who are less knowledgable will tell you to go there. Not that that is bad advise, but there is also the Plaza which is very near the station and just a short walk north of there is Main Street Station which is also a nice casino/ hotel that is not under the canopy and all are safe.

Unlike some folks posting here, I have walked those streets later at night and yes I have seen some interesting things, mainly soiled doves at work and freelance pharmacists offering their wares but nothing that I considered dangerous. I agree with Dr. Vegas, the Father of the Magical Canopy, on this one.

The Station is on Main, around Carson as I recall. On the same side of Main and immediately north is the Plaza Casino. Across Main and immediately north is the Golden Gate. I would consider any of the casinos to be safe.

As with any place in the world, if you keep your wits about you should do ok.

Leave the station via the Main Street exit, Security can direct you. Turn left and walk towards the Plaza and/or Main Street Staton and you should do fine.

When you get back be sure to report on how this went.

I also agree with REH who I know wanders esat Fremont at all hours.

Are there two bus stations down there? The bus station I%26#39;m thinking of is about a block from the Gold Spike next to a federal or state office building. It%26#39;s a pretty big bus terminal. I have pictures of it at home on my PC.
