American Superstars

Does anyone know what songs they sing? Thanks. Steve.

American Superstars

The lineup of impersonators can change on a regular basis so it%26#39;s hard to what songs each will sing.

Here%26#39;s a link with more info:

I meant to say that it%26#39;s hard to know what songs each performer will sing.

July1-5 people

We%26#39;re staying at PH. Anyone else there this time

July1-5 people

we%26#39;ll be there 7/3-7/6 staying at bills but doing a lot of gambling at planet hollywood. i%26#39;ll be the guy crying at the blackjack tables.

July1-5 people

We%26#39;ll be there 2nd - 8th as a surprise for DH%26#39;s 40th birthday. Staying at Flamingo but always spend a lot of time at PH. We%26#39;ll be the group of 5 drunk couples with my DH who will try and act like he%26#39;s 21 again!

Please help us choose - MGM grand vs TI vs Bellagio

We are 4 guys in mid 20%26#39;s with most of us going to Vegas for first time. After doing a whole day of searching for good deals in Hotel we%26#39;ve narrowed down our options into three.

For 5 nights,

Bellagio Standard Deluxe $220 per person

MGM Grand Tower $194 per person (Bungalow $238)

Treasure Island Deluxe $100 per person

Flights from Toronto ~$500 US airways

When we started booking we didn%26#39;t have high class hotels like Bellagio in mind, but after searching it felt within our budget (under $750 per person for flight + hotel). Do you think it%26#39;s worth paying $120 more to stay in Bellagio?

Instead of TI, we could go for Bally%26#39;s, Luxor, NYNY or Mirage for similar price. Do you think any of these other hotels is better than TI for us? Thanks a bunch.

Please help us choose - MGM grand vs TI vs Bellagio

For me it would be between the Bellagio and MGM. We are staying at MGM because we got a great rate, but before you book anything go onto smartervegas.com and see what kind of promotions they are offering. Then call the hotel directly to book your stay. I bet you find a better rate than the $194. for MGM.

Good luck

Please help us choose - MGM grand vs TI vs Bellagio

TI or bellagio have abit of a better location.

i read somewhere else than the venitians abit cheaper than the bellagio at the moment and a good location

';For me it would be between the Bellagio and MGM. Then call the hotel directly to book your stay. I bet you find a better rate than the $194. for MGM.';

Thanks. I did go through smartervegas to find this deal. I think we are paying more than people expecting because of those extra guest charges being applied (which are like $30 per night per person i heard?) Plus that is CAD as i included the exchange rate and foreign exchange charges on my credit card.

I would choose Mirage over TI due to location and pool also they have just upgraded most rooms i think. Bellagio would be worth it for me for $120 more.

You must be looking at packages or 3rd party sites; your prices are all out of kilter. There is NO WAY MGM should cost twice as much as TI. And if the price difference between MGM and Bellagio is only $26 this is an incredible no-brainer. MGM is a vastly inferior property.

Keep checking prices!

Of your other choices, if they are the same price Mirage is by far the better deal, especially for your group.

Hmm. Let me give you the quotes I got and please let me know if they still seem unreasonable for MGM

I got code SDM055 from smartervegas which gave me the cheapest deals for MGM. For 3 Guests (one%26#39;s joining later and we are hoping we can get by) from Wed Jul 9 to Mon Jul 14, it costs $730 USD. When I convert that to CAD and divide it by 4, i get about $194 CAD

Now when I change it to 2 Guests for same number of nights, I only get $539 USD. So they are charging almost $40 per night for that extra person. Is $539 for 5 nights for one room still too high?

As for Bellagio, yeah i%26#39;m using the 3rd party site - US airways vacation. It is giving the cheapest prices...

hi guys

just got back from vegas today (fab fab fab) If I had choice I would go for the bellagio for location, quality of venue. Not wanting to assume by your ages but TI is probably better suited and will give you an insight into alternative venues for any future visits. Happy gambling!!!!!

I think you would enjoy the atmosphere, clubs, bars, and pools of MGM more than any of the others. My second choice would be Mirage.

Bellagio is lovely but it%26#39;s the kind of place you take your girl, not your buddies. Capisce?

Thanks a lot. How would you compare MGM vs MIrage? The price difference per person would be around $75 (for 5 nights). Would you take MGM for that price?

Bellagio, even with buddies. Its a top class hotel.

Great location to hit the strip.

You get out and decide hit left onto CP, TI, Mirage go straight into Paris/Planet Hollywood or turn right and down to NYNY, MGM.

Luxor No Tunnel?

Staying at Luxor 26 June for five days and would like to know if you need to tell taxi driver no tunnel on trip to this property. I know its quite close to the airport but would they still need to use the tunnel to get here?

Luxor No Tunnel?

No, just say Luxor no tunnel. I did.

Luxor No Tunnel?

Thankyou ft!

Dont freak if they use the tunnel. Its really no big deal. I have taken both routes and the cost is really no big difference.

The thing that will cost you the most in a taxi is getting stuck in traffic.

I go to Veags to blow off steam and to not have to worry about nonsense such as this.

Enjoy your holiday and dont sweat it.

I%26#39;m with cousineddie. I think people here have definitely blown the whole ';tunnel'; thing out of proportion.

In dozens of trips from the airport, I have never once felt like I got long-hauled. Sometimes they take the tunnel, sometimes they don%26#39;t. It really doesn%26#39;t matter.

Chances are if they take it, it%26#39;s because it is faster than sitting in traffic.

ALways say NO TUNNEL. FOr years I said it and my husband said ';I think this tunnel thing is blown out of context, stop saying it.'; So on the very next trip, I didn%26#39;t say it and guess where we ended up....

OMG there is a huge cost diff between tunnel or no tunnet when you are talking about the MGM Luxor MB hotel, just say no tunnel and no strip please.

tia: OMG, there is actually very LITTLE difference between a taxi using the ';tunnel'; or not when going from the airport to the Luxor .... Why? Well, since the Luxor is located directly behind the airport on LVBS, it%26#39;s six of one, half-a-dozen of another!!!

Actually, depending on the time of day, traffic conditions, and/or the attitude of the passenger, a cab taking the tunnel can save a pax time and money.....

When you see the Luxor from the airport you may think

you could walk there. You can%26#39;t. No tunnel.

I think we all go to vegas to avoid stress but how stressful is it to say';no tunnel';? Its not and cost difference is big for most places. Your looking at about $25.00 to the mirage before tip with tunnel.About $12-14 without tunnel. And if thats no big deal to you and for many, $10 is not. What should be a big deal is you are being taken advantage of and the cab driver is basically assuming you have never been to vegas, are not bright enough to realize your being ripped off or will be afraid to say anything. Last trip I got long hauled to and from airport. Complained loudly and both times cab driver dropped the fare to what I felt was fair. Next time wont go through the hassle and will say';no tunnel'; right off the bat and not have to worry about it. Dont get ripped off!!!there are plenty of places to spend and extra $10-12 rather then give it to a cabbie.

Shoud we say %26#39;no tunnel%26#39;en route to Bellagio from airport?

Slushie bar in/near Luxor?

We have stayed at MGM, NYNY and TI on previous trips. This time, we have booked our first few days in the Luxor for a change.

We absolutely adore the Slushy drinks in Vegas, particularly Fat Tuesdays - the stronger the better! I am trying to picture the nearest slushy bar to the Luxor and all I am coming up with is Coyote Ugly in NYNY or Fat Tuesdays in MGM.

Does anyone know if there any slushy bars in the Luxor?

Thanks in advance

Slushie bar in/near Luxor?

Last time I was there (Sept of last year) there was a slushie place right outside of the Carrot Top theater in Luxor. I am sorry, I can%26#39;t remember the name...

Slushie bar in/near Luxor?

Also, I just read that the new Luxor restaurant ';Tacos %26amp; Tequilla'; has a ';freestanding daquiri bar for guests on the go'; I guess that would work, too.

Thanks mydusty, that sounds perfect!

There%26#39;s so much that has changed in the Luxor, I wasn%26#39;t sure what was there now!

also there was a slushie bar in MB Place near the Luxor entrance, next to Giorgio%26#39;s cafe.

It was one of the chain ones, maybe fat tuesday cant remember name, mine or the resturants LOL

I thought there was a Fat Tuesdays in Mandalay Place too, but when we were there in Sept last year, we couldn%26#39;t find it. There was lots of boarding up, so we presumed it had now closed.

Has it re-opened?

I was just in LV on memorial day wknd and I knew I saw a slushie place, because I am always amazed at how expensive those drinks are.

Yah it was in MB place and it didnt look like it was closing down it was open for business.

There is one near the entrance to the pools at the Flamingo, but the best is the one in La Bayou downtown...go there for an evening, they have small ones for only a buck, and you can try one of each on the menu :)

Thanks Tialaura

Must have had too many drinks already by the time we went through Mandalay Place that day...!!

';Last time I was there (Sept of last year) there was a slushie place right outside of the Carrot Top theater in Luxor. I am sorry, I can%26#39;t remember the name...';

I found it, it is called LaSalsa. This link shows floor plans and info. on all hotels.

Was there last month and yes, it is a Fat Tuesday%26#39;s in Mandalay place (closer to the Mandalay end). Yummm...

Should I wait to book? December 26-29 Will prices go down?

Hi,

My parents are coming out to Seattle WA from Australia at Christmas time. I%26#39;m an Aussie living in the US.

We would like to take them to Las Vegas. Do you think I should wait to book? We were planning to go right out after Christmas around December 26-29 or Dec 28th-30th. I am guessing this is a crazy time because of the holidays. Is it wise to book now? Or do you think the prices might go down.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Julie

Should I wait to book? December 26-29 Will prices go down?

Are you talking flight or hotel. As for hotel, it%26#39;s a quieter time EXCEPT for NYE. Flight will be interesting considering the cost of fuel.

Should I wait to book? December 26-29 Will prices go down?

Sorry I should have been more specific. I need to book both flight and hotel. I am noticing that the prices are pretty hefty.

With the fuel prices and airline fees going sky high you might not get a good deal anytime soon.

As far as hotel, book now. If the price goes down, just call the hotel and they will give you the lower rate.

Julie, I booked my Jan 09%26#39; flight in March....it%26#39;s already gone up $266 from what I paid. Just my OP...book your flight now...I don%26#39;t see fuel prices going down. Others gave good advise on the hotel....you can always get the cheaper rate if it goes down but your second set of dates are close to NYE and that could impact the rates.

Good luck and let us know how you make out with your decision.

Thanks for all the responses so far!

If you%26#39;re booking separately, I%26#39;d book the hotel now and watch for a better promo rate in October. I%26#39;d wait on the airfare because oil prices should come down some by then. If you%26#39;re booking a hotel/air package, I%26#39;d definitely wait.

Just heard a piece on the news that airlines are talking about having to DOUBLE fares by the end of the year if oil prices stay over $150. Speculation, at this point and I don%26#39;t know what effect the election will have on this, but, it seems to me that if you%26#39;re planning on going and you get a decent fare now, jump on it.

i would say to book both your flight %26amp; hotel now. i work for an oil company and the speculation is that gas prices may rise to as high as $7 in the next year. at the current cost of oil, the current gas prices are still too low. but who knows what%26#39;ll happen, but i believe with southwest you can get a credit toward a future flight if the price does drop. and with the hotel, what the others said.

I went to Vegas that exact timeframe last year and the prices were as high for 3 nights then as what i%26#39;m paying for 7 nights this sept. Like the other%26#39;s have said you can always re-book your hotel if the prices are lower but we stayed at MGM and they were full (or so they said when we tried to switch rooms)so I would think the sooner the better since you know your dates already.

  • Check your Ding early on Wednesday

Southwest Air promises some good deals in celebration of their 37th.

Check your Ding early on Wednesday

I received that ding today, I guess I forget to look sometimes. I even put a reminder so I don%26#39;t forget to look. I am just wondering what the surprise will be.

I hope a cheap Vegas aifare

    Thanks for sharing

Check your Ding early on Wednesday

    Thanks for the tip.

Well, I hope it is before 6:00 a.m., cause that%26#39;s when I leave my house and I don%26#39;t have DING at work. Maybe, it will still be there when I return.

Thanks for the heads up, Hitch. I checked my DING and saw the message after I read your post.

    Camille

    ';Check your Ding early on Wednesday';

    Check your own Ding!

    :-%26gt;

(seriously, no SW around here so we miss out)

We also received that notice, and they also won%26#39;t let me have DING here at work :(

So...if Camille and I get left out tomorrow morning and the DING pops up after we go to work, would you let us know the surprise?

I remember on their 25th, that we got $25 each way to Vegas....it was sweet!!!!!!

    Seriously, what%26#39;s a DING? %}

Thanks for the heads up. I have my ding turned off because Dallas and NO quite a drive.. BUT if it%26#39;s a good deal I may not be able to pass it up.

Does anyone know how early these Ding fares will come up? Our computers at work don%26#39;t allow us to add Ding and I won%26#39;t get home tomorrow until about 7PM and I know everything will be gone by then. If it comes up by 7AM eastern time I%26#39;ll be ok.

Pam, ding is an alert Southwest airlines sends out for discounted fares. If you go to their site,

    www.southwest.com/hotfares/signup.html…

sign up and you will get dings too. I%26#39;m sure they fly out of Seattle.

Thanks mitz! I am technologically impaired. Or something like that. Learning new things. ;)

Will check that out. They do fly out of SEA.

    Club Cards...points levels.

If $1 = 1 point, and my card has over 3000 points, then I have spent (theirs and mine) $3000+

    I thought ';wow, Im going to present my club card when I check out and get some comps';

It was worth $3 off my total bill :(

    does this sound about right?

How much are these people spending that get free rooms %26amp; buffets?

    Stace

    Club Cards...points levels.

wow, that stinks, they have to be spending a lot of $$$ I would think. maybe your card had a different way of calculating the points?? there are a lot of different ways... just a thought

doesn%26#39;t sound right, maybe they calculate 1% of your spending for comps

    Club Cards...points levels.

I%26#39;m going to bump for you so that someone with knowledge can adequately answer your question.

I can only give you MY personal experience.

Comps and points are two different things - at least at MGM/Mirage properties where I play. If you%26#39;re using a Total Rewards or other card, then I can%26#39;t help you at all!

My host has tried to explain - or HAS explained and I%26#39;ve tried to understand, the formula for comps and I really don%26#39;t get it, but it is not the same as points. I%26#39;m hesitant to throw out a percentage for fear that it%26#39;s incorrect info, but it IS some percentage of your total play (credits cycled through), they also take into account time spent playing, what you%26#39;re playing etc.

I%26#39;m sure someone will jump in and help you out.

What club card are you referring to?

Different casinos have different point=$ ratios.

If you were at Mirage, I think it takes about 5,000 pts per day there to get a room comped, at Bellagio it takes 7,000 pts for a comped room per night.

I have approximately 3400 points from Club Coast card aka Orleans.

staying at excalibur - any nice buffetts near by

we will be arriving on thursday afternoon after a long flight from the uk. after we check in to excalibur, where would be a good idea to head for something to eat.

staying at excalibur - any nice buffetts near by

Mandalay is one of the top ones in Vegas. Take the tram and you%26#39;ll be there in no time. People talk highly about PH and the Paris buffets. I%26#39;ve only had breakfast at the Paris and it was pdg.

staying at excalibur - any nice buffetts near by

Another vote for Mandalay Bay. Avoid the Excalibur buffet at all costs.

Mandalay Bay, take the tram or walkways. Esp. nice for a fresh and cheery breakfast.

Planet Hollywood is worth the walk, so is Paris just past it. (Bellagio is good in higher pricing, but does not beat these 2.)

These 3 will take care of your needs nicely, don%26#39;t go to any others S of Flamingo. If you like peeled shrimp at L/D, go with MB or PH.

If you were to choose 1 vegas show, which would it be?

    Hi,

Heading to vegas soon (next month) and I would like to take in a show. The choice is, as you know wide to say the least so I need a little bit of help. Which show would you recommend?

    Thanks for your help!

If you were to choose 1 vegas show, which would it be?

First, I would only recommend a show that is unique to Vegas. Second, I would look for the highest entertainment value--something spectacular.

I think that the Cirque du Soleil shows that have unique staging and are likely never to tour would be both unique to Vegas and really spectacular shows. This narrows it down to KA and O, both of which are great. I prefer KA.

If you were to choose 1 vegas show, which would it be?

I agree with the previous poster.....something unique to Vegas. For me it would be a Cirque show too but LOVE (IMHO) is the best.

    zbethg

    Either ';O'; or Le Reve.

O - but we havent seen Love which we hope to in Sept.

';O%26#39; - have seen it twice and it was fabulous!

I agree- a Cirque show would be a good choice. I have seen Mystere (twice), Ka, Love and O. Mystere remains my favorite because I think it has the most WOW moments. It is the one I always recommend for someone who has never seen a CDS show before. Love is fabulous but it isn%26#39;t a typical Cirque show- the emphasis is on the Beatles music rather than the acrobatic feats. O was good but not as good as Mystere-IMHO. I did not like Ka at all. The stage was great but the show did not hold my interest.

My vote- Mystere with Love coming in second.

    Without a doubt LOVE.

    It would definitely be Love!

We saw LOVE....it was VERY impressive...good music.

However, I%26#39;m rather tired of the Cirque shows....they are everywhere. Dd and I want to see Elton John when we go in October......he%26#39;s quite the legend, as everyone knows. I have read on here that it is an unusual show; but what else would one expect from Elton John....lol! To me, that%26#39;s Vegas.

All You Need is ... Love ... Love ... Love is All You Need ...

Jason Walker found unconscious on Las Vegas street

Any Vegas natives have the skinny on this? The article I read just said ';a street off the Vegas strip';...that could be alot of streets.

Just wondering if there are any other details.

    Thanks.

Jason Walker found unconscious on Las Vegas street

Actually, I was curious about this too, but haven%26#39;t gone searching the news outlets yet to get more information.

    Incidentally - it%26#39;s JAVON Walker.

LAS VEGAS -- Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker was found unconscious on a Las Vegas street Monday after apparently being the victim of a robbery.

    Walker

Police spokesman Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with ';significant injuries'; after being found early Monday on a street off the Las Vegas Strip.

Cassell said Walker remained in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

A Raiders spokesman said the team was ';in the process of gathering information'; and had no further comment.

    NFL.com Video

Javon Walker 72-yard rush for touchdown.

Walker signed a six-year, $55 million deal with the Raiders after being released by the Denver Broncos in February.

Walker injured his right knee for the second time in his career last season and was limited to eight games and 26 catches in 2007.

Walker was a first-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2001 and had a breakout season in 2004 with 89 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He tore a ligament in his right knee the next season and played only one game.

He was traded to Denver in 2006 and bounced back with 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns.

Javon Walker plays for the Oakland Raiders football team. I saw the news scroll by on ESPN this morning.

In fact, here%26#39;s a link to an ESPN article:

    sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3447765

Apparently got beat up after partying at the Wynn (Tryst)-great role models these NFL guys...

I have friends who were in there and said he was squirting champaign all over everyone and spending a LOT of money there............which isn%26#39;t uncommon but sounded like he was acting out a little!

I%26#39;ve seen sever articles referring to this article in the LVRJ: lvrj.com/columnists/鈥?/a>

Montrealtraveller, are you assuming that it was his team mates%26#39; or his fault that he was beaten and robbed?

I spent a week at the Wynn a year ago. While talking to a hostess at Terrace Pointe Cafe, she warned us not to walk off strip and to stay out of the parking garages. She went on to say that there are many gangs in Vegas and off strip areas are not safe.

So, don%26#39;t make generalizations that blame sports players or anyone else if you don%26#39;t know.

Ok well I%26#39;m going to make an assumption that this fella had to be looking for some shady activity to even find himself on the back streets of the casinos and get robbed and beaten. He could have simply partied at the Wynn and taken a taxi/towncar/limo anywhere else to resume partying or go back to his suite wherever he was staying. There%26#39;s no reason for a man with that kind of money to be alone in an area like that unless he was looking for something shady. It%26#39;s not like the robbers dragged him out of the casino and just dumped him there haphazardly.

Thanks for this thread. I%26#39;m sure it will be quite helpful to those traveling to Las Vegas.

FWIW, incidences like this happen all over the world in cities large and small.

Hash House a Go Go Menu?

    Hey there!

Does anyone have a link for the Hash House a Go Go menu? I tried to click on the website, but their link must be down because I cannot get onto their site.

Also, any feedback on your experience there would be great as well.

    Thanks!

Hash House a Go Go Menu?

Ate breakfast there on trip to Vegas 2 years ago, plan on hitting it again this trip. HUGE portions and the food was really good. There are coupons for it on Restaurant.com....very reasonably priced even without the coupon. Pretty good drive from the strip, but very good.

  • Sushi Roku

I read that Sushi Roku in the Caesars Forum has a happy hour from 4-10pm if you sit at the bar or the red sun lounge. Just wondering if this is true and is it rolls or just drinks that are discounted? Does it get packed? Also any other happy hours you know of that are decent. We are staying at MGM in 2 weeks. Don%26#39;t care about walking to different hotels Where from NYC so walking is my mode of transportaion.

    Sushi Roku

did a search for Sushi Roku and found this post - anyone know the answers ????

also, how is the sushi there? am an avid sushi fan - could eat it everyday...

    Sushi Roku

Not sure about the happy hour-but sushi roku is quite good, also recommended would be NOBU and OKADA

I would put Sushi Roku on a near par with Shibuya (@MGM) and below Okada and Nobu. Sushi Roku is owned by the Boa Steakhouse people and has it%26#39;s first places here in LA. The Beverly Center one is great, but the Caesars one has a better view than food. But I%26#39;ve only been there once in all fairness.

Would it suffice for a lunch during a day of shopping? for a little diversion?

Of course. It%26#39;s a good place.

    Spa in Las Vegas

    Hi,

I´ll be in Las Vegas ina about three weeks. We are staying at Flamingo. I have been thinking to go to a spa, no specially for teatment, just to enjoy and relax a bit. Can you recommend a nice spa there? Any idea of prices? We have a car so it is not a problem for us to go anywhere. Thank you

    Spa in Las Vegas

Qua Spa, across the street at Caesars, is wonderful. There are 3 pools in various temps (one hot, one warm, and one cold) to relax in- there are heated lounge chairs in the pool room as well. There is a herbal steam room, cedar sauna, and ice room. There is a hot tub and a room with chairs and a TV%26#39;s and magazines. They have tea, juices, snacks, and water. And they have most everything you need to clean up and get ready to go out. It costs $45 and you can stay as long as you like. It%26#39;s worth every penny IMO. My husband and I are going back in August (my husband insisted!)

    Spa in Las Vegas

It sounds really good!!! Is it the best one in the strip?

It is supposedly the best spa in Vegas. Enjoy!

Great price. Do they offer any other spa services (facials, pedi, etc)?

Do you know if they have a web page? Thanks

They have a web page. Just go to Harrahs.com and look under Caesars.

I visited the Spa at Mandalay Bay back in February and our group loved it. Same offerings as Qua at Caesars (our 2nd choice) and about the same price. Pics %26amp; services are on the MB website.

    Hi,

Did you coose Mandalay´s spa first for any particular reason? Thanks

    Help Again- Grand Canyon

So here we go again. Want to go out to the Canyon from Vegas. Usual story, don%26#39;t want to spend millions of dollars but I do want something fairly good. Any suggestions?

Day tours? Companies to avoid? Should we just hire a car and go out alone? Im going a bit cross eyed with this south rim, west rim, etc etc etc.

    Help.... :)

    Help Again- Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is about five hours drive from LV, one way. So a day trip by car is really far too long. If you can spare the time, an overnight there would be well worth it -- it really is impressive.

Here is a recent thread that contains some useful info and good links to explain the difference between the ';west'; (Indian reservation) and the ';south'; (Grand Canyon National Park proper).

    鈥ripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k20266鈥?/a>

    Help Again- Grand Canyon

A good trip to the Grand Canyon from LV doesn%26#39;t have to cost a lot of money. But it will require that you commit some of your time.

The Grand Canyon Nat%26#39;l Park, as noted above, is about a 5 hour drive from LV. This is the best place to go to see the GC. Rent a car and drive there yourself. The entry fee to the park is only $25 per vehicle. (Not $49 per person like it is at the so called West Rim).

Because of the drive time requirement though, you should plan to spend a night there. The best places to stay are at the lodges that are inside the park. However these rooms book many months in advance. So if nothing is available inside the park, then settle for something in the town of Tusyan, just outside the park. But prebooking there is strongly advised as well.

Touring the park on your own is easy to do. You will be provided all the information materials you could need when you enter the park, or you can research it on line.

Tip for US Air customers to save money

When booking a flight on US Air%26#39;s website, be sure to also use the US Air Vacations portion of the site even if you have other hotel plans or comped rooms.

Sample- A early December trip from Philly to Vegas is $404 person. However if you use the USAir vacations the same trip is only $364 including 5 nigths at Fitzgeralds downtown. So you are better off booking this vacation and not showing up for the room at the Fitz if you have comped rooms elsewhere.

Worth a check for other dates and cities as part of your search.

Now for all their fees...thats another story!

Tip for US Air customers to save money

Good hunting Buffbillsfan. Also, I%26#39;m really going to miss Tim. I really liked him. He was an asset to Buffalo.

Tip for US Air customers to save money

He was and also Mitch Ferrotte died this week from the early 90%26#39;s teams.

Thank you so much for this great post! I just did a search and flights + 4 nights at Bellagio for 3 people came out to $2000 incl tax. Well considering a direct return flight from Toronto to Vegas costs $600 a person, we would be basically staying at Bellagio for $200 for four nights.

Hey does anybody if we could get charged fees if we don%26#39;t show up for the hotel we booked? I guess they wouldn%26#39;t charge us since the room has already been paid through US airways vacations. But just wanted to make sure if anybody has done this...Thanks

    *bump*

    has anyone else tried this??

Ummm...if you have ';other hotel plans'; not through US Airways Vacations and you%26#39;re not comped, you%26#39;ll be paying for two hotel rooms. That%26#39;s not going to save you any money. Better to just book the whole trip through USAirways Vacations, with airfares what they are now you will save enough on the airfare to offset any discount you would have got through a promo code.

But IF you can get comped rooms and only book flights, this may save you money. That is my point and was hopefully a help to someone.

    BuffBillsfan,

    Good post.

We use USAV all the time out of Toronto for our short trips. We%26#39;ve booked the cheapest package (usually Fitz) JUST for the airfare and then stay at comped rooms or even booked separately at a different hotel. It has always worked out cheaper for us this way.

If you are flexible with your dates, USAV can be a great option.

Dollar car rental prices going down

Someone alerted us last week about rates dropping.

Just rebooked at $9.84 per day (compact) for last weekend in July, code 49. Intermediates going for like 12 bucks.

Dollar car rental prices going down

Excellent! Thanks for the heads up Hitchhiker. I%26#39;ll check our rates now : )

Dollar car rental prices going down

I posted last week that I found out Dollar was dropping, and it seems like it%26#39;s STILL dropping! I just checked again today, a week later, and it went down by another $2 per day, giving me an overall savings of about $10 or so. I secured a Lock Low and go rate of $12 and change for an intermediate or larger. Still, I%26#39;d rather put that $10 into a slot than give it to Dollar! Thanks for your tip! So another tip for everyone, check your dollar reservation, AGAIN!

Hitchhiker, I tried putting %26#39;49%26#39; in the code field and it wasn%26#39;t valid. I%26#39;m still getting a compact for $30/day, picking up and returning at Monte Carlo on July 17th (one day rental). What am I doing wrong?

Flameboy: I tried to use that code too and it wasn%26#39;t valid for me either. The code that I%26#39;m using is RCUD3...that is giving me an intermediate or larger for $12.35 per day plus fees and taxes. Total charges is just under $60 for 3 whole days to and from the airport.

Sorry folks. That should be 490. My ';0'; on the keyboard is cranky.

Getting a car from a hotel is going to cost you more money than if you get it at the airport. It is just about always this way. Some codes don%26#39;t even work for a hotel rental.

Flameboy (again)...please ignore my post about the code that I used...it would seem that it is not applicable to one day rentals from a hotel. It is actually cheaper to rent from the airport and it is also cheaper the more days you rent for. Since you%26#39;re only renting for one day, to and from a hotel, it would seem that there is premium for that.

VP03, you%26#39;re right. This particular car that I got for $9 cost $30 at the hotel.

Thanks for the replies. Not to go off topic but what%26#39;s your suggestions for a situation like mine; one day, to and from hotel rental. Is there such a thing as a ';cheap rental';?

Thanks for the information. I had a car booked for July 4-7 for $146.00 I then rebooked for $107.00, Now the same deal is $87.00. Rebooked again.

    Thanks,

    Pam

Pictures in front of Vegas sign?

This may be a stupid question, but I notice in a lot of TR%26#39;s people have pics of themselves in front of the Welcome to Vegas sign... do you have the limo/cab drivers stop and take your picture or something?

How far is the sign from Mandalay Bay? I%26#39;ve been to Vegas lots of times and have never been to the sign and would LOVE to do it when we go in August... is it walkable from MB?

Again, sorry if this is stupid, but I%26#39;m just curious as to have most of you get that picture taken.

Pictures in front of Vegas sign?

Anyone can stop at this sign (about 1-2 miles south of MB). Just pull off the side or the center of the road. There will probably already be people there.

Pictures in front of Vegas sign?

rockfoxxx, I was thinking of the same question. I guess I pictured that part of the road to be similar to the LV Blvd, say in front of Caesar%26#39;s, where traffic is crazy and there is no room to pull over or just stop.

The sign is definitely not 1-2 miles south of MB. More like 2 blocks, tops. It is definitely walkable. It is on a wide median between the north and southbound lanes of Las Vegas Blvd. The best time of day would be mid-to-late morning before the sun gets too high. The ';Welcome'; part faces south, so it%26#39;s pretty much in the sun all day. For nighttime you%26#39;ll need a good flash.

    It%26#39;s actual 7/10 of a mile

I am so glad that you asked this question!!!

I have been to Vegas about 60 times, and I have NEVER seen the sign. I had no idea where it was located, I definately want the kids to have their picture made at the sign.

    Thanks so much!!!!

be wary of taking the kids to the sign. Many pics of women sans top in front of the sign...

    just be prepared...

There most defintely *is* traffic there, so just keep your wits about you and hang on to the young%26#39;uns!

The last time I was there people were parking their cars right on the center island.

';be wary of taking the kids to the sign. Many pics of women sans top in front of the sign...

    just be prepared...';

So stop for pics of the sign is what you are saying...

    noted*

Thanks everyone!! We%26#39;re actually renting a car one of the days we%26#39;ll be there, so I guess that%26#39;ll be the easiest way to swing by.

That%26#39;s hysterical about women ';sans tops'; in front of the sign - Welcome to Vegas indeed! lol...

  • glitter eyeshadow
  • day and evening wear?

    Hello All,

Its been 5 yrs since I have been to Vegas.

Has it glammed up more since then?

I know daytime something cool and comfortable , but how about in the evening for shows?

My husband and I will be going to Crazy Horse Paris and to Mystere .We are staying at the MGM Grand.

Also any tips about the MGM ? Oh and is there a (pardon me if I am wrong about the name) tickets 4 tonite near there and has anyone had good luck with it?

    Thanks for any info

    Catmother

    day and evening wear?

There is a discount ticket booth near MGM, just north of it on the Strip about a block, where the giant Coke bottle is. I have used it twice, it%26#39;s great for the ';B-list'; type shows, but you%26#39;re unlikely to find Cirque or Cher tickets there, for example.

As for what to wear to a show - They turn off the lights and everyone is looking at what%26#39;s going on on stage. No one will be looking at what you are wearing. If you%26#39;re concerned about looking attractive to someone, I suggest dressing to please your husband, especially if he%26#39;s the one who paid for the tickets :)

    day and evening wear?

Most people wear very casual clothes during the day. Shorts, jeans, slacks, tees, etc. depending on when you are going. Some people like to dress up and night while others don%26#39;t bother. You will see everything and anything at the shows- shorts/jeans, business casual right up to formalwear. I think it depends on what people plan to do that night other than the show. If you are going to an expensive restaurant you will probably want to dress up a bit otherwise wear whatever you think is comfortable. The clubs do have dress codes but I can%26#39;t help you with that.

Here is the website for the 1/2 price kiosks. Remember- the tickets are usually for that night only and they may not be 1/2 off. Some are 10/20% off. The shows offered vary from day to day.

    http://www.tix4tonight.com/

Everything Stratton said, but add a sweater to your outfit because the theatres get extremely cold. The casinos do too.

I%26#39;m staying at the MGM 8/1 - 8/8 when will you be there. We already have tickets to see Tom Jones and may get tickets to Crazy Horse Paris too or one of the others in that same category.

    Liz

I posted something similar to this question a few weeks ago. I was just in Vegas June 4th thru the 7th and stayed at the MGM. I ended up packing 2 pairs of shorts, 3 pairs of pants, 6 tops, and two jackets. I%26#39;m glad I did. If anything, your clothes get smelly from smoke. It%26#39;s nice to change into something fresh every day.

I went and saw Spamalot at the Wynn and Penn and Teller at the Rio. I wore very light weight pants and a nice top to Spamalot and Jeans and a nice top to the Rio. The audience for both shows were dressed in a fashion variety. Shorts, Halters, nice dressess, slacks, sweaters, etc. It%26#39;s all good.

If you are a person who gets cold easily, do take a jacket or light sweater to the theater and casino. It does tend to get chilly.

The only tip I have about the MGM is to stay off the path going through the casino and cut through the casino to get anywhere. MGM gets crowded and people tend to mill around on the path. We have things to do and people to see, no time for milling.

My husband and I will be there for a 3 day trip.

July 10 and leaving July 13.

thank you everyone for your response.

    Neon Boneyard tour length?

Does anyone know about how long the tour of the Boneyard takes? Do they allow any extra time for taking photos?

    Thanks!

    Neon Boneyard tour length?

When I took the tour in October 2007, there was enough time during the tour to take lots of pictures. Copying from my trip report:

    ';The tour takes an hour to an hour and a half. It%26#39;s all outdoors, with no shade, on gravel lots with some broken glass, so dress appropriately and bring water with you. The two lots are filled to the brim with signs - so full that it%26#39;s hard to get a good view of some of them. Lastly, the signs look pretty bad: almost all of the neon is missing, rust is apparent, and some signs are in several pieces. That%26#39;s the bad news. The good news is that it%26#39;s fascinating to see a sign and say ';I saw that when it was running'; or ';I read about that casino.'; During my tour, one of the other tour takers pulled out pictures he had taken 30 years ago, of some of the signs when they were still in operation.';

    Neon Boneyard tour length?

I can pretty much agree with everything ';excess'; wrote about the tour. It is very loosely a tour (unless they%26#39;ve spiffed it up in the last 3 years) and more of an opportunity to check out the signs and ask the %26#39;guide%26#39; questions. She will point out a few of the more famous/interesting signs, but it is by no means a structured tour on a time table. We were able to wander around and take all kinds of pictures. I really enjoyed it, but I can see where some people might be disappointed or expect something different.

    Alpinestars Clothing

Does anybody know where sells Alpinestars clothing / equipment in Las Vegas ??

    Alpinestars Clothing

A chain of shops in NV and CA called Tilly%26#39;s sells their merchandise. This website will show what they carry and has a store locator on the home page:

    tillys.com/tillys/鈥?

    Alpinestars Clothing

    Motocross or road race equiptment?

    Cheers for the responses guys

DrVegas, It would be roadracing equipment I%26#39;m after

    STE-IOM

Frankly there are no shops on or near rhe Strip that stock that type of equiptment. You%26#39;ll have to look up dealers via the A-Stars website to find locations but you may still have a problem finding exactly what your%26#39;re looking for since not many dealerships (Suzuki, Honda, Kawi etc.) stock a lot of riding gear because it%26#39;s expensive to have in inventory. Every dealership I%26#39;ve managed stocked a few popular items in average sizes and special ordered everything else and that usually takes 7 to 10 days to receive.

I have to assume you would like to try to take advantage of the weak dollar by buying here and I don%26#39;t blame you, but frankly, ordering online from various retailers will usually find you the best prices. If that%26#39;s not possible, maybe you can email each of the dealerships in Las Vegas and ask if they have what you need.

I admit I am a bit jealous of your homeplace being a big racing enthusiast. I haven%26#39;t been to the Isle of Man, but maybe someday soon.

    Doc

Try Cycle Gear-- 344 S. Decatur Blvd. Las Vegas 89107. (702)877-4327. It is 7-8 miles off strip but stocks plenty of Alpinestars leather jackets, pants and suits. As well as mesh, protective wear, and t-shirts/hats etc.

    Discounts on Show tickets

I know there are websites like smartervegas and fatwallet. But, haven%26#39;t decided what to see yet. Is there anywhere in vegas to go to get the discounted ticket prices? Staying at the MGM grand.

    Discounts on Show tickets

The closest 1/2 price ticket booth to MGM is about 2 blocks away on that side of the street. Exit MGM and turn right (north) and you will see the large Coke bottle. It is in that building, right next to the Coke %26amp; M%26amp;M stores.

    Discounts on Show tickets

There is a discount ticket booth (mostly day of show tickets) near the giant coke bottle just north of the MGM Grand. Shows available for that day are posted a little while before the office opens (maybe 1 hour before and if I remember correctly, the office opens at 11am- not certain though). There are lots of good shows available there daily, but the offereings vary day to day and also depending on when you get there (get there early to have a chance at more popular shows like Mystere). Discounts can be up to 50% off, but could be less for shows like Cirque. Many of the coupon books floating around Vegas have coupons for a discount off the service charge, so be on the lookout for those as well.

We were at the MGM last week and utilized the tix4tonite described above. My brother went to their website and was able to print out a front of the line VIP pass which allowed us to skip the entire line waiting on the sidewalk and get right in. My wife bought two floor seats for Mama Mia for a Tuesday night for $110.00 total. The pass allowed us to complete the entire transaction in about 8 minutes. There is also a an employee managing the line who is very knowledgable and can help you select a show.

    awesome, thanks guys!

Try travelzoo%26#39;s website. Go to --shows-las vegas.

I almost bought Phanton yesterday but I couldn%26#39;t convince Mildred.

    Best buffet desserts?

Heading down to Vegas in mid-July with my g/f and we%26#39;re both huge dessert buffs. Just wondering what%26#39;s everyones opinion on who offers the best desserts for a buffet. Thanks!

    Best buffet desserts?

When I went to the Bellagio Sunday brunch, they had tons of choices and they were very colorful and creatively done(very fancy looking). FYI they had a large selection of sugar free deserts also..

    Best buffet desserts?

Rio has very nice selections, Italian gelato too.

Mandalay Bay has a large good dessert area.

Paris is pretty good, but has cut back on desserts compared to a couple years ago..still, a lot of nice stuff.

I loved the Rio dessert bar at the Carnival Buffet!!! Best Key lime cheesecake I%26#39;ve ever had!

I second the Rio dessert bar at the Carnival World buffet (Key Lime - yummy!), I also like the deserts on the Paris buffet. Surprisingly, I did not find the desserts that spectacular at the Wynn buffet. I can%26#39;t say they were worse than the other two I mentioned, just that they were no better. I guess I had high expectations?

My favourite is PH buffet - you can make a warm brownie sundae with hot fudge and caramel sauce...yumm! Plus, I find their selection to be the best.

While I%26#39;m a big fan of both Paris %26amp; Wynn buffets - I%26#39;ve never been overly excited by their desserts.

I second the bellagio buffet for desserts! They all seemed like bakery quality choices. Creme Brule was very very good!

Wynn has a great selection- including gelatos, pastries, cakes, pies, cookies....and several no sugar added selections that are great (I love the cheescake!)

    Bellagio,

I was there last week , and they have a awesome selections of deserts. Here is the link to the Bellagio. Check it out

    …atdmt.com/MGM/…

Out of the buffets at Bellagio, Paris, MB, MGM, Mirage, and the Rio, I must say that I love the desserts at the Bellagio buffet! They usually have a great selection of cakes, tarts, tortes, etc. My son is always looking for a dessert like their chocolate raspberry torte. Yum! We%26#39;re going back in mid July and looking forward to our usual visit to the Bellagio buffet.

    Enjoy your trip!

I haven%26#39;t eaten too many lunch/dinner buffets to compare....however, when we ate the Orleans lunch buffet at the end of May - they had scrumptious, moist dessert. Not the dry usual stuff you get at a buffet.

    Internet connection at MGM Signature

Does the wifi-connection at MGM Signature really work? I%26#39;ve read about problems and I really need the connection and besides that they charge you for it in the resort fee.

    Internet connection at MGM Signature

Yes, the WiFi connection at the Signature ';really'; works, and is quite fast from what I hear. :-)

    Internet connection at MGM Signature

Resort fee includes internet ($12 elsewhere), bottled water($5 elsewhere), fitness room ($15 %26amp;up elsewhere), coffee.

    Have the same question and resurrected this old thread for updating. Does anyone know if Signature Room Connections are Wi-Fi or if you need to ';plug in?';

If I remember correctly it was WiFi, but I am not 100% sure. Although if you do have to plug in I would imagine they%26#39;d supply you with the cord to do so.

As I recall, it is wifi, and worked really well.

Thanks. I called the concierge at Signature and she was super nice(great sign for a nice hotel experience). She said the rooms do have WiFi but sometimes people have trouble and they provide connectors. Also said that the Starbucks in tower 1 has reliable WiFi.

We used the Wifi in our room there on our last trip and had no problems, in fact it was quite fast and easy to connect to. Of course we wern%26#39;t trying to work, just checking email and TA.

  • Yay! I'm going on Friday, seeking advice...

Hi everyone! I%26#39;m so excited to join my husband and FIL in Vegas on Friday. They%26#39;re at a techie convention/training all week and my MIL and I will join them for the final two nights.

I%26#39;ll be staying at Bally%26#39;s for the first time. Given the tight booking options, my in-laws will be staying at Paris. You can imagine my hearbreak.

This is an impromptu trip and we%26#39;re in the process of saving $$$ for a Kauai trip in November. For these reasons, we%26#39;re not seeing any shows (though the end-all-be-all for me was my previous trip when I saw Phantom and Celine, what else is there for me to see, that was perfection) or gambling very much. We want to relax, eat, and have fun before we all pile into the car and drive home... TOGETHER. Help.

    Anyway...

We both love comedy and I%26#39;d like to try The Comedy Stop (Tropicana?). The price is very reasonable. Has anybody been lately? It doesn%26#39;t matter who is performing, we%26#39;re bound to have a fun time irregardless. My husband is sensitive to cigarette smoke and I know in the days of yore they had a ';smoking allowed'; show which was typically the later one. Is this still true?

I%26#39;m FINALLY going to dine at Mon Ami Gabi, which I%26#39;ve wanted to do forever. We have reservations for an indoor table at 6:45pm, but of course we may try for the patio if it isn%26#39;t scorching hot. I don%26#39;t mind the heat but my poor husband will melt. Other than the French onion soup, are there any must-trys that you recommend here?

In addition, I%26#39;m going to INSIST that we try Margaritaville. I love Jimmy Buffet and I love margaritas. Enough said. I assume there%26#39;s no reservations, true? Any advice on this restaurant?

Yay! I'm going on Friday, seeking advice...

Many of the forum regulars will be decending on Vegas this weekend for the Mega. (myself included)

There will be many activites downtown,- brunches, and 10pm slots at the 4 Queens. You are more than welcome to join us in the fun that we are planning.

Have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself!

    Marge

Yay! I'm going on Friday, seeking advice...

We were at the Comedy Stop in February and they still had the 8pm show as non-smoking. We%26#39;ve been going to Comedy Stop for the past 6 years and have loved it every time. You should be able to find a $5 off coupon in the free magazines in your room or in the gift shops so the show would only be $30 for two people with 1 free drink each.

I%26#39;ve never been to Mon Ami Gabi so can%26#39;t comment there, but we love Margaritaville and will be back there in a few weeks. I don%26#39;t know if they take reservations or not, but I do know that you could seat yourself at the hi-top tables by the bar. We did that instead of wating for a table. Have a great trip!

It is best to pop on the main Mega post then PM the main organizers as I think that it is an RSVP event.

    Thanks for the info! :)

    does the mgm have?

we will be arriving in 12 days, we cant wait!! this is our first trip to vegas. my husband likes to bet on greyhounds does the sportbook @ mgm have greyhound racing? if so do you know what tracks they have. i like super jackpot party machines mgm does have those right? we are staying at the signature in a junior suite and the mgm will be our first stop for sure!! it will be airport, check in throw luggage on floor and go GAMBLE!!!! THANKS !!

    does the mgm have?

yes i think they do have the dogs on tv there, dont qoute me though but pretty sure

    does the mgm have?

Can%26#39;t say on the Hounds, but definitely yes to Super Jackpot Party. When I was there last fall they also had a variation called ';Village People Party,'; which unfortunately ate my $20s rather quickly without so much as a bonus round. It LOOKED like it had the potential to be a fun game though, given a big bankroll!

    Big Elvis

Does his show usually last the full hour?

    Big Elvis

When I%26#39;ve been there it usually does.

    Big Elvis

Yes, I think so, but it is a fun hour. I particularly like watching/listening to Big Elvis while playing the Elvis quarter slot machines that are right in the same area. He puts on quite a show! :)

it did when i was there last monday.at every show he sang different songs so we stayed for all of them.it was a great afternoon out.in my opinion its the best free show in vegas.

The show my friends and I saw in October was a little over an hour, but he has a Conway Twitty impersonator do a few songs while he takes a little break. I can%26#39;t say if the guy was good or not as CT was before my time and I%26#39;m not a fan of old-time Country %26amp; Western myself. Big El sticks around after the show for pictures and autographs. Very good showman and nice guy. I applaud his major weight loss the last year or so, about 500 lbs. or more? So he is now ';Not-as-Big Elvis,'; at least wardrobe-wise. I think this forum has been a great promotional tool for him, so he%26#39;s bigger popularity-wise.

He%26#39;s now on vacation. Next show is June 30th. Obviously nobody told him about the Mega...... :-)

Thanks everyone. We%26#39;re finally going to try and see him this trip.

travel agents matching prices in uk

would a travel agent match prices off the internet for instance for flights of delta or united airlines sites?

    or from hotel sites?

doubt it as they wnt make any profits. much easier and cheaper to book yourself directly with the air company and hotel IMO

+ you can shop around for online deals with each casino website for cheaper rooms

Oh they will alright, the worst being that they charge Mirage money for staying at CC!!

wouldnt you pay mirage prices for a classy joint like circus circus though?? thnik i would.

the travel agent matched my price for my last holiday but that was to thailand on one hotel adn flights.

thsi holiday i want to do 3 citys

one thomas cook shop wnated 2300 one day the very next day i rung another thoams cook shop they said they would match my price at 1940 so i booked it.

the shop who quoted me 2300 said she couoldnt give anymore discount out that month .

    A trip to remember - 6/11-6/15....

Ten guys ranging from late 20’s to late 40’s made their way to Las Vegas last Wednesday, June 11th and somehow made our way home the following Sunday. We were fortunate enough to have our entire trip comped through a connection one of us with the MGM-Mirage properties, and we chose to stay at the Mirage. Most of this report will center around the Mirage, it’s restaurants, pools, spa, etc…, but we also made our way to a couple of off-property night clubs as well.

First off, all of our rooms were on the same floor and all were of the newly renovated variety. Very modern décor and they were nice overall, but still nothing to get overly excited about, particularly by Vegas standards. But, since they were free, there was absolutely nothing to complain about. It was also worked out well that we were all on the same floor.

    Wednesday -

Each day was spent at the same place – a cabana at Bare Pool – and I can’t think of a better place to be. We had bottle service every day, and the service was top notch. Anything we needed, they made every effort to get for us. The crowd was good on Wednesday and Thursday, solid on Friday and PACKED on Saturday. They had a DJ playing club type music each day, which creates a good vibe out there. I highly recommend Bare, especially for the younger crowd. My guess is its reputation will continue to grow in Vegas as more and more people discover it. I’ve been to Ditch Fridays at the Palms before, but I’d take the intimate feel and VIP service at Bare every day of the week.

That night we ate dinner at STACK, and it was excellent. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it and the food was top notch. One of the specials that night was sliced Kobi filet and lobster, and it was one of the best meals I’ve eaten in a while. I definitely recommend STACK.

Following dinner we made our way to LAX at the Luxor and had a great time. We had a table reserved on the mezzanine over the dance floor and it was one of the best in the house. Mike Tyson was at the table next to us, which made the night even more interesting. He didn’t have much to say when we talked to him, but he was nice enough to take some pictures with us. The service we received was excellent, and we had a great time overall. A lot of dancing, a lot of drinking and a lot of fun.

    Thursday –

We again spent the day at Bare. Thursday is locals day, so it had a little different feel than other days. That night we ate in the private room at Kokomos. For various reasons, our dinner group grew from 10 to 19, and we literally barely fit in the room. The room had a flat screen in it, so we were able to watch game four of the NBA Finals during the meal. Another enjoyable dinner, but I’d pick STACK over Kokomos if I could only eat at one restaurant at the Mirage. It just has a better feel, and I liked the food a bit better. Still, Kokomos is by no means a bad choice.

That night we went to JET, and I was a little worried prior to going in because they only started opening on Thursday nights a few weeks ago. We had initially planned to go to Tao or Tryst, but the opportunity to have everything “taken care of” at a club in an MGM-Mirage property was too good to pass up. My concerns were unfounded, as it was packed, and we had a great time. We had a table right on the dance floor, which had its positives and negatives. The biggest downside was that people that weren’t in our group were on top of us, particularly later in the night as the crowd grew. Overall, though, we had an awesome time. I really liked the vibe of Jet, and they played music that suited my tastes perfectly.

    Friday –

As with every other day, our first stop was at Bare. This was the smallest crowd of our trip, so the vibe was a bit more laid back but still a lot of fun. We ate dinner that night at Onda, an Italian restaurant in the Mirage, and I’d describe the food as solid. I’ve certainly had better, but it was still worth eating.

Friday night we actually returned to Jet, but we made sure to get a better table. We were right beside the DJ booth in a roped off area and plenty of room for everyone to sit and do their thing. Another great night by the DJ, and the place was packed to the gills. I’ll definitely return to Jet on my next Vegas jaunt. My kind of place.

    Saturday –

By this point, we all had to dig DEEP for energy, but we managed to make our way to Bare again even if most of us stayed in the shade the cabana provided. Some of the guys in our party missed the Wednesday night dinner at STACK, so we decided to return there that night. That turned out to be a great decision, as the meal did nothing but exceed our expectations. Since our crowd had grown significantly, we were seated at a table on a stage at the back of the restaurant. Again, great vibe and even better food.

That night we went to The Bank at the Bellagio and blew it out one last time. The Bank is more upscale than Jet or LAX, but the table we had paled in comparison to our setup at Jet. We were on the second level overlooking the dance floor, and our group was just too big for the space we were given. We still managed to have a memorable time, though,

As part of our stay, we could all use the spa at our leisure, and it was awesome. The service was great, and I really enjoyed having a quiet place to go to watch TV, eat food, etc… I highly recommend the Spa at The Mirage both for the quality of the services they provide and the overall way they treat you.

    Overall impressions –

This was a trip I’ll never forget, and I think everyone in my group feels the same way. We were treated like celebrities by the Mirage staff and partied like rock stars every night. I still don’t know where the endurance came from for most of us, but I’m glad it was there. It was the kind of trip where you didn’t want to miss a thing and regretted it if you did. Vegas is simply the best, and I can’t wait to do it again next year.

    A trip to remember - 6/11-6/15....

Sounds like you had a fabulous time! Thanks for the TR!

    A trip to remember - 6/11-6/15....

Sounds incredible - was there any gambling, or just pool and clubs?

I personally didn%26#39;t gamble much, but several of my boys did go hard. Some did better than others, but it was easier to justify the losses when we were getting so much for free.

I%26#39;m glad you had a good time, though it%26#39;s hard for me to relate to this kind of trip as I don%26#39;t get comped trips, cabanas, or bottle service. You might be interested to know, though, that ';Kobe'; beef is spelled the same way as the basketball player%26#39;s name.

One thing I forgot to mention. On Saturday night at the Bank, our table was right above Javon Walker and his crew. So it%26#39;s crazy to hear what happened to him the next night.

Stratton - It wasn%26#39;t the kind of trip I could relate to either until it happened. I%26#39;ve had bottle service at clubs before, but never on someone else%26#39;s dime. My head is still spinning from the entire trip.

Thanks for the tip on ';Kobe.'; Wish there was an edit function on here. :-)

    Universal,

Sounds like a great trip. How about some info on the eye candy at the Bare pool???

sounds like an awsome trip..so jealous I have to wait two more months to go back. It is funny the 3 clubs you went to are the only 3 I have not so thanks for the info, people always rave about Jet.

So how long did it take you to recover once you got back home? We are usually there for 6 or 7 nights and we party the same as you all it takes me a good week to get back to what I call reality...LOL

    Cheers,

    Magic97

Magic - I returned home on Sunday, and I%26#39;m still trying to fully recover. My body finally adjusted to the time change this morning, but my energy level is still down a bit. Regardless, I wouldn%26#39;t change a thing. It was completely worth it. Hope you guys have a great time.

I have a sneaking feeling that Javon paid for your entire trip(although he doesn%26#39;t know it).....just joking and I hope he feels batter.

Great Report. I was at the Mirage and left on the 11th.

    TI balcony/open windows?

Hey, I%26#39;m coming back to TI in December and it%26#39;s been like 3 years since my last stay there, I can%26#39;t remember do any of the rooms have balconies or windows that you can open? It%26#39;s not a big deal, but when we stayed at the signature that was really nice to sit on a balcony and look out (can%26#39;t afford that nwo though lol)

    Thanks :)

    TI balcony/open windows?

No balconies at TI. You%26#39;ll probably be able to open the window an inch or so but no more.

With a few exceptions, Vegas hotels rarely feature balconies. Too much chance of somebody reacting extremely badly to heavy gambling losses.

    TI balcony/open windows?

    No Balconies at TI-

I think the windows only have that strip at the bottom for fresh air-

The only hotels in Vegas I have personally stayed at which had them were:JW marriot and Signature MGM-I think some of the older hotels may of had them back in the day..

Thanks for the quick replies....We can do without them lol, I got a strip view room so at least we can look down the strip. I know it%26#39;s silly to some people but I love just looking out at everything when I first get up or before bed.

  • American Casino Guide

    Hi,

I have heard alot of talk on this book. Is this book worth the money? I am staying on the strip for only 3 nights....would I get my moneys worth? Also can you buy this book in Canada and where?

    Thanks everyone,

    Lori

    American Casino Guide

I bought my book on Cheapovegas.com for $15.50. there are quite a few 241%26#39;s, I also heard you buy it at book stores, like Barnes and Noble, I just read about it on here late last week I think. You have to make it a point to use the coupons

    American Casino Guide

    Hello!

    Here is the website:

    http://www.americancasinoguide.com/

You can check out the coupons and see if you will find it worth your effort or not.

FYI - I went to Borders and Barnes %26amp; Noble, both stores had the Guides on backorder, no estimated date. I just ordered directly from ACG website total cost: $17.56. I think they have international shipping, it will just cost you a little bit more. I rec%26#39;d my guide in less than a week. I think it will be well worth the effort :-D

I buy this book everytime I go to Vegas. I just picked one up this week at Barnes and Noble for a trip we have scheduled in August. Best part is that I typically am able to resell the book on eBay after I am done using it. The book more than pays for itself....but you have to use the coupons to make it work.

To get a total price of about $5.00, go to buy.com and use the google checkout. Customers new to google checkout get a discount that in effect brings the cost down to five bucks. They are out of stock right now, though.

I bought one for the first time this year and it paid for itself the first time I used it. I did get it for $5 using buy.com. I am using it next week for the Mega: 2 for 1 nights at the Sunset Station, so there you go!

Will be going back in November and will use it again. I plan to get one every year.

    Mrs. G

I have my coupons clipped and ready to go for my trip in 2 weeks. They have some great downtown coupons that will more than pay for the book.

    Bette Midler

I am purchasing tickets to Bette Midler. Are 2nd mezzanine seats not worth the price?

    Bette Midler

The seats are all pretty good in my opinion. Have you checked travelzoo.com? They had Bette tickets at $40 off on Friday.

    Bette Midler

My wife and I saw Bette in March and sat in the 2nd mezzanine--we loved the show but were disappointed in the seats. The stage was a long distance away, and if we had to do it over, we would have purchased better seats.

I sat below for Cher and had very good seats. Don%26#39;t see Bette until next week.

One complaint up top for the Cher show was they couldn%26#39;t see the top of the screens from up there. Not sure what your exact location would be. And not exactly show what Bette has in her show.

Here%26#39;s a seating pic to maybe help your decision:

    Lowrance,

That%26#39;s a very cool link. Never seen one like it before. Nice way of getting an idea of how far away you%26#39;ll actually be sitting.

Any advice about Desert Rose Resort ?

    Hi folks

I am planning our 2nd trip LV.

Heading over from Scotland October 19th.

We are two females in our thirties.

Last year we stayed in NY NY and loved every minute of our holiday.

However realising how little time we actually spent in our hotel room we are looking at ways to keep the cost of our holiday down ..giving us more spending money!

My first thoughts were Circus Circus or Imp Palace but poor reviews put me off.

    Orleans is still an option.

Desert Rose a non gambling resort gets great reviews here on T.A

It has fully equiped kitchen (not that we will be cooking but the fridge would be nice!)

With free breakfast and a free happy hour and is 5 minutes walk from MGM it sounds very tempting.

Is it safe at night walking from Strip?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

By booking our own flight and own acc. if we go for Desert Rose our holiday will be £200 cheaper than last year!

Thanks Molly P.s Have a great time at your Mega M%26amp;G

Any advice about Desert Rose Resort ?

I stayed there last October and was quite pleased. the walk was not bad and it was quite safe. My daughter walked back from clubbing at 4 am Sat and Sunday nights. The rooms were a good size and clean. Pool is small but so is the hotel. Nice hot tub also.

In my opinion, go for it. OH btw, the breakfast is just a continental one, and get there early or it%26#39;s gone quick. But it%26#39;s free!!!!

    Marge

Any advice about Desert Rose Resort ?

This is where we are staying in September, and we chose it due to the amount of unbelievably good reviews it got on expedia (where we booked it) and we got a fantastic deal on it flying American Airlines. The reviews ive read all say, rooms are huge, well stocked kitchen and very little noise.

Its also only a short taxi ride from the airport and a couple of blocks to the strip and as we are renting a car for the weekend whilst we are there we can pick up at Luxor and not have to drive down the strip too much, which im very glad about lol

And a free breakie always comes in handy, even if its only enough to get you to mid morning.

I don%26#39;t know a great deal about Desert Rose other than where it%26#39;s located. Be aware that ';5 minutes walk from MGM'; means to the rear of the hotel. To get to the Strip will probably take more like 20-25 minutes.

    Molly-

My hubby and I are also in our 30%26#39;s. We have stayed at the Desert Rose several times. We have always been very happy. I think the rooms are spacious, very clean and updated. The breakfast isn%26#39;t THAT great, but free! We always grab a little extra to keep in our room in case we don%26#39;t want to go down the next morning.

We have always had great service.

As far as the walk..about a 3 minute walk to ';Hooters';, that is the closest casino. Small, but fun. MGM is less than 10 min door to door. To get to the strip it would be 10-15 max. We have always felt safe, there are a lot of people around.

    Have fun!

Thank you all for the quick replies!!

I am on a day off today ..raining here , lurking on the forum reading great trip reports and getting very excited about returning to Vegas in October

I think I will go for it and book Desert Rose.

    Cheers Molly

    Molly

Here%26#39;s a link to the pictures I took last Oct. It was a 2 bedroom suite

    Marge

    travel.webshots.com/album/561066537uzZTty

    sorry forgotthe link..lol

    Hi Molly:

We will be staying at the Desert Rose from July 5-12th in a two bedroom suite. I have not been there as yet, but all the research I%26#39;ve done here on TA and other travel sites all rave about the accommodations. There is a small free buffet in the morning and is very close to the strip. The hotel is directly behind the Trop and Hooters, and a very short walk to MGM, NYNY, etc.

Have an excellent trip...when are you arriving?

    Arlene

    Hi

Arlene I will be in Vegas from 19th Oct til the 26th. Yepee

Marge thank you for the pics it looks fine.

I havent told my friend yet about the fact its a king bed in the room ..hope she doesnt mind sharing!

If so we can toss a coin for the sofa. lol Molly

    Check out Platinum on expedia.com

Newer, nicer, better location, good value for money. 1 km off midstrip. There is a photo gallery on their own website, but they often throw out sale prices on expedia, so price it there. They will match these if you call direct.

(Most poor reviews are sketchy or undeserved, but CC and IP deserve every word)

    Poker tables with video dealer

I am from CT and was wondering if the casinos have Propoker tables that are similar to online playing but you all sit at an actual table and everyone has their own screen and the center of the table is a large screen where the cards are delt. They have the tables at Mohegan Sun, a casino in upstate CT. I havn%26#39;t sat down at one yet, just have watched, but they look like fun! I am heading to Las Vegas in September and wanted to know if I should look for them there? Thanks!

    Poker tables with video dealer

we are there in oct,let us know if you find tables, great idea.

    Poker tables with video dealer

I saw that at Sahara.. not sure about the other casinos, sorry, I wasn%26#39;t looking for them. The reason I noticed that at Sahara was because there were a couple of people playing, and they all were saying ';COME ON!!!!!'; to the screen (to the dealer). It looked fun, but after 5 minutes or so everyone stood and and left the table shaking heads.

    thanks.

At Mohegan Sun they had 5 tables. All were full with players, with a waiting list for more people to join. Some tables were $2/$5 no limit, others were $3/$6 limit, and they also had a tournament with $60 buy-in and you get 3000 in chips. Top placed players get the money. Lots of people were watching, poker players were having a great time. No delay of cards being delt. It was like Full Tilt Poker on-line, except real people were sitting at the table.

Jetsc - Not sure if it%26#39;s still there, but they had a ';practice table'; at Mohegan where you could sit and the pit boss would let you play a few hands for free just to get a feel for how it works.

The coolest part is how when you touch the screen where your cards are, it turns up just the corners of the cards just like you would in real life.

I think this would take a little getting used to. I would not recommend it for beginning players because they might have trouble following the action and there is no human dealer to help you.

The casinos will love it because it promotes faster play (which equals more pots and more $ per hour for the house), and because they do not have to pay a human dealer.

Next time I am up at Mohegan Sun I am going to try it. It looks like fun. I am used to playing online so it should be easy to pick up. I didn%26#39;t discover the tables until about an hour before I was leaving and there was a waiting list of people ahead of me. It was a Saturday night and the casino was busy. I go during the week when it is apt to be less busy and I will try it then. It doesn%26#39;t sound like I will find the tables in LV. :(

Just curious... what%26#39;s wrong with a live dealer?

Recently played at the ProPoker tables at the WPT room in the FourWinds Casino near Chicago. It was quite a fun experience.

It could have been a bit daunting were I to familiarize myself with the system on my own but thankfully there was a demo table and some friendly staff who walked me through the basics.

The only word of advise I%26#39;d give anyone looking for a ProPoker table is to first get used to the basics and make sure you are comfortable - the last thing you want when sitting down at a poker table is a feeling of discomfort about how you%26#39;re going to play the game!

Jetsc: I%26#39;m in Vegas in July and will post back with updates if I find any ProPoker locations that may be worth visiting.

I played this for the first time this weekend, at Four Winds casino in Michigan.

I hated it. I%26#39;ve been playing online poker for at least five years, and live casino poker for fifteen years. Pros and cons as I see them:

PRO: I think it would be easier for new players, because it signals you when it%26#39;s your turn to act, your options are clearly displayed, blinds are automatic, etc. I know a good dealer would be able to help with all of this, but most dealers don%26#39;t assume you%26#39;re new, and you might not want to advertise to the whole table that you don%26#39;t know what you%26#39;re doing!

    PRO: More hands per hour.

PRO: Higher profit because no dealer to tip.

CON: I missed the feel of cards in my hand

CON: Less tells, because no one is handling cards or chips, and most people are staring at their screen.

CON: Less interaction.... again, people are focused on a video screen, so it%26#39;s a MUCH quieter room. (Again, here I%26#39;m losing tells)

And for me, the biggest CON:

Every bet is a string bet.

At no limit, bets come out one chip at a time.... for example if I wanted to bet, say, $18, I%26#39;d have to click on $5 three times then $1 three times. The chips show on the video ';table'; one at a time. Without typing for a page, I%26#39;ll just say that there is good reason that ';real'; poker has strict rules against this form of betting.

Sorry to write a novel, but I REALLY hope these don%26#39;t become more popular!

as a dealer, i would urge everbody to avoid these machines...they won%26#39;t be buying your cars, your groceries, paying taxes or voluntering in your neighbourhood.

    Olives at Bellagio

Is it worth eating here? I have read mixed reviews and wanted the advice of some of the experts on here. We have reservations for this Thursday evening....

Also, is the cost about $50 per person more or less?

    Olives at Bellagio

Definitely worth a visit... It is one of my favorite restaurants, Delicious food, attentive but unobtrusive service. and of course the view of Lake Bellagio. Many people on here have issues with the patio seating situation. If you come a little early for your reservation and let the host person know, then you will be able to sit on the patio if you are flexible. The cost will be around 50 per person, depending of what you drink. If you drink more, of course it will be higher. Have a great time and if you have more questions, the %26#39;posters%26#39; on here will give answers.

    Olives at Bellagio

Olives is one of our favorites. We dont%26#39; care about sitting on the patio. Their ricotta ravioli is my favorite entree. Everything we%26#39;ve ordered was great! The bill for 2 of us is always under $100 (no drinks and no desserts).

    Enjoy!

I%26#39;ve eaten here 3x, it%26#39;s always been a great experience for me. You can certainly eat fish, chicken, pasta here with one drink each plus tip for a little over $50. The portions are very generous. Beef/steak is of course going to be more expensive.

Olives is always a must eat at on my LV trips. Our last lunch was $80/2 including tip we each had the house martini $14 but well worth it. I always eat the butternut squash ravioli.YUM YUM. Never had a bad meal. You can look on line and see menu and pricing.

It%26#39;s well worth the time and expense, go and enjoy!

Thanks all - I am definitely looking forward to our Thursday dinner now.

    Hi all,

I had booked at Olives for my hubby%26#39;s 30th for dinner after seeing O. However one of my friends who has been to Las Vegas on numerous ocassions says that Olives is a better place for lunch as it gets crowded in the evening?

I%26#39;m now having doubts about our restaurant choice.

    Any suggestions or reassurances perhaps?

    Thanks a ton.

I%26#39;ve eaten there at dinner time and had no problems at all- one time without a reservation, one time with one. It%26#39;s one of my favorite restaurants- good martinis and the beef carpacio is just delicious.

Over from Oz for a visit and keen to take in Fountains and a feed at Olives.

Heard it is hot there so is sitting on patio for view of fountains good or can u still see them from inside.

If I bookn can I ask in advance for patio or only when you arrive.???

    Thanks guys

Thanks guys for the replies to this question. DH and I have reservations next week and can%26#39;t wait to give it a try.

We really would like to sit on the patio too but will be happy wherevere they put us.

Can you see the fountains if you are not on the patio...big windows?

JackandSally...so good to hear from you again.

    Greyhound bus station--horrible???

So I%26#39;m taking the Greyhound from Los Angeles and my friend will be picking me up there around 2am. I should be arriving in Vegas around midnight.

I was planning on walking into a casino and hanging out for the two hours. I%26#39;ve been to Vegas many times but never to this area.

    Should I be freaked out?

    Greyhound bus station--horrible???

Not if you are looking to meet some hoodrats and buy some pharacy goods.

    Greyhound bus station--horrible???

The walk from the Greyhound station to the magical canopy over Fremont street is about 2 minutes. Once you get to the canopy I%26#39;d guess your heart will be at ease. Hopefully you can make the 2 minute walk without freaking out. Enjoy your stay.

No freaking out needed. Walk the two blocks to Fremont and go in and out of casinos at your leisure. Midnight ain%26#39;t that bad of a time. What day? If it is a weekend it will be a bit busier.

I agree with REH, get yourself under the canopy on Fremont Street and have your friend pick you up by one of the bigger hotels there like the Golden Nugget.

    Good luck and be safe!

Agree with the choking, but it is helpful if you are looking to buy some things to make the gambling losses feel a litlle better.

    blondeambassador,

Bus stations in the US seem to attract a less than desirable elment and are most times in less desirable areas, but the station in Las Vegas is very close to the Fremont St. experience and the canopy above it that has a light show and is very touristy and usually busy.

The ';magical canopy'; (a term I believe I coined) is considered by some to be much safer than any area around it so that%26#39;s why people who are less knowledgable will tell you to go there. Not that that is bad advise, but there is also the Plaza which is very near the station and just a short walk north of there is Main Street Station which is also a nice casino/ hotel that is not under the canopy and all are safe.

Unlike some folks posting here, I have walked those streets later at night and yes I have seen some interesting things, mainly soiled doves at work and freelance pharmacists offering their wares but nothing that I considered dangerous. I agree with Dr. Vegas, the Father of the Magical Canopy, on this one.

The Station is on Main, around Carson as I recall. On the same side of Main and immediately north is the Plaza Casino. Across Main and immediately north is the Golden Gate. I would consider any of the casinos to be safe.

As with any place in the world, if you keep your wits about you should do ok.

Leave the station via the Main Street exit, Security can direct you. Turn left and walk towards the Plaza and/or Main Street Staton and you should do fine.

When you get back be sure to report on how this went.

I also agree with REH who I know wanders esat Fremont at all hours.

Are there two bus stations down there? The bus station I%26#39;m thinking of is about a block from the Gold Spike next to a federal or state office building. It%26#39;s a pretty big bus terminal. I have pictures of it at home on my PC.
